[SPOILERS] scooter's Industrial Revolution

Real quick comment before I get to the other stuff later.

That has to be a Statue of Liberty build, and he'll likely land the wonder barring a Great Engineer popping up somewhere.

Hmm, good catch here. If this is true, then we should probably sink some hammers into a SOL build in this case because the failgold will get copper multiplied. How about we switch Haber Process from Wealth to SOL?

How about we watch the production tracker for one turn to see what happens next turn? I'm reasonably confident that REM has a Statue of Liberty build going, but it would be a pretty big setback if we guessed wrongly.

Are there even any other > 800h buildings available? If so, yeah definitely wait a turn... But I believe there won't be another > 800h building available until Assembly Line.

I did verify in-game that there's nothing right now that costs 800h or more (closest thing is Versaille at 640h), so it's definitely a SoL build. I decided to go ahead and swap. I suppose the risk is that for whatever reason he'll stop and we won't cash in for awhile, but I imagine he wants it ASAP because why not with his raw city count. So let's get some boosted failgold. Told-you-so rights are totally fair game and all that. lol

REM did accept OB, although I don't think we're going to get any routes until he swaps out of Mercantilism.

OK, that works for me. That build kinda has to be Statue of Liberty if there's nothing else available that even costs 800+ production right now. I also think REM will be doing his best to finish the wonder quickly, and we should be able to cash in before the end of his Golden Age.

Regarding Mercantilism/Open Border trade routes: this is going back many years to Single Player days, but I think it takes until the beginning of our next turn to calculate the trade routes after signing Open Borders. I can't remember if Mercantilism locks out trade routes for the other non-Mercantilism partner, or if one-sided trade routes are possible. We'll know when the next turn starts in any case.

Donovan re-offered OB so I said sure. However, I'm like 70% sure we don't get 1-way routes with Merc civs. If any lurkers can clarify, an answer would be welcome. We'll find out soon enough, but if we don't, do we consider offering OB to Dreylin? They're the only other civ not in Merc right now. OB with them technically helps us more than them since with them having more cities, we would receive more new routes. We could then cancel with them if/when others start getting out of Merc.

The flip side is that I think they're hurting for commerce far more than we are, which may be a good argument against it. I'm very firmly on the fence on this one, so any strong opinions are welcome.

Also, I misclicked into the wrong thread and very nearly pasted this post into Dreylin's thread. Yikes. I alt+f4'd as soon as I saw Dreylin's avatar, though, so I didn't see or read anything.

SPIRITUAL:
When you adopt Free Market you get the bonuses instantly. By using spies I figured that trade routes are unlocked for others as well.

After Spiritual revolt from Mercantilism to Free Market

Trade routes present

For the AI player (I jumped on Justinian obviously) trade routes are here as well

I need to leave now so I cant check how it works with non-spi, but maybe that helps.
Yeah, I'm not happy about my past behaviour either. shakehead

So, uh... Civstats suggests that Pindicator burned a Dreylin city. Music to my ears. I hope it was a consequential city, but I'm guessing it was that Gaspar front city that Dreylin captured? I can't think of what else it would be. I won't be able to login until later tonight, so if you get the chance to jump in and snap a picture, go for it.

I saw it too! jive Two new cities for BGN (yay trade routes!), pindicator at war with Dreylin, and our team staying under the radar. I'll be out for dinner tonight so I also can't log into the game. Argh!

I had a chance to log into the game:

Pindicator had a diplo window with nothing offered when I logged in. I closed it, and there were two more diplo windows behind the initial one, each with nothing offered. Scooter, can you make any sense of this? I have no idea what this is supposed to mean (if anything). Possibly an artifact of the Pausing from the end of last turn.

This is the city that pindicator razed, the multicolored blob on the map to the south of Balakirev. It originally belonged to Gaspar/Noble, then Dreylin captured it, followed by pindicator razing it. I doubt that pindicator could have held the spot against Dreylin's huge army, and that explains why it was burned down. The location was only 3 tiles away from pindicator's city and its removal clears up some space in that part of the map. Hopefully pindicator isn't planning on making a pattern of razing cities three tiles away from one of his. mischief

I think the spot was only defended by a single unit, as pindicator only has 9 points of war weariness and you get 6 points for capturing a city from what I remember. That's only a guess though.

There's the war declaration in the event logger. Note that pindicator has not signed peace yet with Dreylin; no idea if it was offered by either side. REM popped a Great Merchant, and I wonder if that's an accidental Great Person at low odds. The Great Merchant lightbulbs Steam Power, which makes little sense for REM (he researched Scientific Method first, and that can only mean a Communism push). Maybe the idea is to use it for a trade mission to another team?

Induction Coil popped borders and happily controls the corn tile already. I think we chop out a theatre this turn, and then work the corn/horses/iron tiles, using Build Culture until we have control of the sheep as well. I would like us to push for 100 culture quickly here, for the dual purposes of cultural control and the 40% defensive bonus. We also now have vision of pindicator's two border cities, neither of which have any cultural buildings inside. Pindicator is also not in Caste System civic, so if he wants culture in these cities it's Build Culture or nothing.

My trigger finger got itchy and I moved the explorer a tile north to see what was up there. I'll leave it to your discretion on where we want him to finish his turn. Scooter, there was a pair of Gaspar/Noble workers on the orange dotted tile before I moved, and I suspect that they are moving them over to either scout the area or gift to our team. Heaven knows we can use another two workers up here.

On the last big issue for the turn: Open Borders with Dreylin. We currently have Open Borders signed with every team in the game except Dreylin. Of course, we only get trade routes from BGN since everyone else is in Mercantilism. We would get a huge influx of commerce if we were to sign OB with Dreylin, and it would catapult us ahead significantly in our research; his 12 cities would be worth at least 36 commerce at 3 per city. We could potentially sign OB with Dreylin and have the two of us race ahead of the rest of the field.

However, I'm still leaning against signing them with Dreylin, as I think that they would gain more than us. They have to be hurting on research right now, and I think we can get a tech lead. What do you think?
