[Spoilers] It's time to play the music

Turn 152

Ah, threats.

I presume Mack is saying "get off my land", so I moved our the selected boat back up north. The other will circle around south without going in borders. As you can see Mack took Astronomy.

We're finally going to be neighbours. And we finally have gems.

This may have been a mistake - the Trireme and Galleys can dogpile our Caravel frown.

I think the next GP arrives eot 163. Hopefully not a merchant.

I'll take a shot at it this weekend. How many GPP do we need for the next scientist? Will National Epic be up by then?

Now that the library is done the maths got easy tongue. Figuring out how many GPs we should produce in the golden age and afterwards would be good though...

Turn 153

We're at war with Mr Mack, but peace (cease-fire) with OT4E...

Com is at war with Pindi - I was a bit confused how he'd hit O'Malley until I remembered his Carracks. While I was logged in TBS piled on, but didn't take any cities.

Mack will get the jungled gems next turn. I moved a couple of workers SW of The Count so they can road next turn if we want to attack - we can put 4 cats, 2 Swords, 2 Maces and 2 LBs next to the city next turn. He'll be able to upgrade the Archer to a Longbow though, so it might cost a few Cats to burn.

I'm scrambling to get three good defenders (Mace or LB) in each coastal city here, along with a force of four Caravels, hopefully to ambush any Galleons that come our way. Any ideas how to hide the Caravels? They're only 3 move and Mack has 2-tile visibility, so it's going to be hard to hide them.

I sent Mack a more reasonable price for peace. Will have to see if he wants to counter-offer.

It turns out Pindi didn't spite-whip *every* city down to size 1... It looks like he's been piggy in the middle again this game, so I can see why he'd be grumpy.

Mack is up to something here. Wetbandit thinks that it's an invasion of 2metra, and he's probably right but I'm feeling fairly paranoid.

He's got a Caravel - with promotion pending - up here scouting, but he hasn't uncovered any of our coastal cities yet. Let's try to make sure he can't:

- Caravel vs unpromoted Caravel - 50%... LOSS (2 hits frown )

Okay, a couple more boats will try to find and destroy that one. If he is going after us then stacking loads of units in coastal cities isn't going to be an effective defence against 12+Zerks forking 2-3 cities, so we'll try and build a big fleet of Caravels instead to try to sink the boats with the Zerks on them.

Down in the jungle he's got W2 Zerks guarding the approach to Tazar. I'll see if I can sneak around them next turn.

In the only good news for the turn it turns out the Hindu shrine isn't boatable.

Hey lurkers, we reloaded for Brick to take over from Pindi - that means our Caravel gets another shot at the 50/50 battle we lost first time around - anyone got an opinion about what we should do if the fight goes differently this time around?

- Caravel vs unpromoted Caravel - 50%... WIN! (3 hits, 4XP)

I don't think I'd made a fuss if this had happened the other way around, so I'm inclined to just carry on. When Mack reads this after the game and realises this was the turning point of the whole war then I expect him to be unhappy though. wink

Looks like Brick did a better job of defending this turn than Pindi - he lost a city less and got a great general for his troubles. The barb galleys that have been chasing our scouts back north for the last few turns will probably annoy him though...

More extortion from Mack.

He's moved his Galleons toward OT4E, so I'm not so worried any more. Note the workers building forts so that he can get boats around much quicker. We're staying at war so we can kill his Caravel if it comes our way. If he did decide to go all in on an attack I think we'd have enough boats to sink most of his fleet.

We've uncovered OT4E's first five cities now - Cuzco, Tiwanaku, Machu Picchu, Ollantaytambo and We Demand Food. He stretched to We Demand Food and then again to his seventh city - Jungle Juggler (Cookie Monster) and to Nuevo Cuzco (Big Bird), so I assume his back lines aren't much good.

I tried to warn him about Mack's Zerk boats. Who knows what he'll make of it though...

Food looks good, but Mack and REM (I think) are in golden ages so we trail in MFG, while I think we'd trail in GNP anyway.

I'd say Mack really wants peace - his demands are getting smaller and smaller...

OT4E is our new best friend crazyeye.

Our spy finally croaked. Commodore took another city and got a GG. Mack dumped 350 EPs on us to remove city visibility this turn. I'm concerned that it'll be easy for him to come around this coastline, either naturally or by forting, and threaten Big Bird et al. The Caravel will keep exploring.

Without city visibility we can't tell what Mack's Galleons are doing, but he completed the fort so I'm 90% sure they're heading for OT4E. If they are coming our way at top speed we'll see them somewhere between the two 157 signs next turn. If they are dawdling then they'll be two tiles back. A medic Caravel is unaccounted for - I thought it'd be visible this turn, but perhaps its taken a more circuitous route.

This is a nice screen.

And this is our empire.

Mackoti offers white peace. I don't really want to take it because it'd mean he can map out our core with a Caravel. Then again it would mean we can explore his cities to our heart's desire. He hasn't declared on OT4E yet, so there is still a chance that he'll come for us Ohdear.

Not accepting peace might be a bit stupid.

OT4E took OBs. We can go watch the carnage. I at least want to find Mack's scout and kill it.

I've been wondering about late-game hammers - we don't have an amazing site for the ironworks city - Animal, Big Bird and Oscar are the only high-food cities on rivers, but Animal and Big Bird have other jobs, so unless we re-purpose BB later on I think Oscar is looking like our best bet. The Zig in BB will speed up the GP by another turn.

REM chains his golden ages and TBS captures his second Pindi-city. Still no sign of invasion from Mack, but no peace offer this turn.

It looks like his core is further down here - if this caravel survives then next turn it'll uncover a city or two.

So should we hit Tazar with the mace who snuck into the jungle last turn? There is a C1 Galleon here, but I suspect it's role is defensive rather than offensive. please

Pros:
- Costs Mack a 15-turn old city
- Signal to TBS, Commodore, REM that we're at each other's throats, maybe making them less likely to backstab?
- 3XP towards the next GG
- Slightly eases the pressure on The Count

Cons:
- Anger the beast
- Power levels
- Galleons vs Caravels

The alternative is to move the W2 mace past the city rather than burning it, sending a message of peace, harmony and friendship. Does that do us any good? I don't think so - Mack plays Civ like a game rather than role-playing a beneficent leader, so we'll only ever have peace until he decides he wants to attack anyway.
I think I've convinced myself...

W2 Mace vs Archer - 62%... WIN! (4 hits)

I'll delete the mace...

Some bad news is that Mack can get around this peninsula fairly easily. Time to start building an eastern fleet. rolleye

The city list.

Got REM's graphs back again and they remain unworrying.

Nice! Yeah, the hopeful converse is that rational game-player Mack doesn't tilt to hard at you either. :D
