picklepikkl embarks on the Fool's Journey

Mausoleum would be nice, but with both Sian and greenline planting cities to take the marble, I am skeptical. Oxford, of course, but that's a ways away.

Really, I feel the strongest Medieval wonder is probably "a whole lot of knights" Kappa.

greenline used his Great Prophet on a Shrine instead of a 1-person Golden Age. I'm not sure how much I agree with that, but he's ahead of me on score, so what do I know? We now have tech visibility on Jowy and Sian; Jowy is researching Music (!!!) and Sian nothing, presumably because he just finished a tech.

Monarchy in, Civil Service dialed up. I had completely forgotten that Monarchy unlocks wines and did not have anyone in position. Luckily, we also hooked silver this turn, so I am not yet hurting for the lack.

Depends. The smaller the map the less auto spreads and the less cities that it can spread to. However, if it is your first GP and you feel it will be a while before you want to golden (re civics) then it might be wise.

If you read my pb27 thread I got my first GP incredibly late, and didn't use him for a GA. I was middle pack then and warring. At the time I regretted that and burnt a turn going for beuro switch but now I think it was the right call, as my late GA got me a huge amount of civic switches.

In other games I'm in I have gone shrine first. It seems really powerful but I am yet to make it work for me sadly frown remember as you can run the slider higher it is better than its base gold output, and a quick market/grocer/bank build there in the Middle Ages makes them very productive.

That's a useful analysis, REM, thank you! Great People are definitely a part of the game I don't feel I really understand.

On that subject: Jowy just got a Prophet. He's about to get Music's Artist. I don't feel like I have a command of Great People mechanics, but I'm pretty sure we're all screwed. I seriously doubt my chances of being able to get a decisive blow in against either Jowy or Sian. Feh.

General consensus is to time first GA to go beuro. Normally now as the last turn of the GA comes. With the lushness of maps people have food to run specialists sooner and so GAs come quicker. But I would still say a decent cap with academy is the best use of a first GS. And I always trigger GAs later than the curve here so I go shrine.

Well, my first Golden Age will start with me swapping into Confucianism + Monarchy/Bureaucracy/OR, so clearly I'm doing it right tongue

If Jowy doesn't start a Golden Age next turn and swap into Representation, I'll eat my hat. He's going for Machinery, so there goes my hope of any sort of Maceman offensive. Our own golden age is in a handful of turns, and the Hanging Gardens will come around then as well, assuming we don't get sniped. EDIT: Also, because Sian isn't reporting, I will do his job for him and let y'all know that he's researching Feudalism.

I also bagged Moai Statues in The Hierophant, which is pretty neat. Now to get that city a Forge so it can use all those hammers properly...

My hat is un-eaten. Sigh.

My new goal for this game is simple: knight offensive to burn that city that offended me so. I don't think I can kill Jowy or even cripple him enough to overcome his massive lead, but I want a moral victory, dammit.

Great Person coming out at EOT 82. Golden Age will start 83. Let's see how it goes.

Can you see when despite it being such high difficulty that we pointed IMP so high? It's difficult to shift people once theyve claimed the land

I did notice that. Learning experience!

This turn was quiet. Possibly, too quiet. The most exciting things to happen were the switch to 30-year-length turns and the construction of a new worker. The latter actually presented a dilemma: you see, there are no goetic demons whose names begin with J. I thought about how to resolve this, and then finally settled on a solution that, I thought, would please the most people.

Jowy built the Statue of Zeus. Jesus Christ. Aren't there supposed to be Industrious leaders in this game?

Oh well. At end of turn we popped a Great Scientist, built the Hanging Gardens, and most surprising of all, got a free religion spread into The Emperor. So that's all pretty cool.
