[LURKERS] Mr. Gradgrind's Review

REM would have to take peace this turn specifically - he'd have to offer peace the moment he takes a city and chooses to stop?

And if Dreylin offers peace next turn, REM should be VERY skeptical about taking it - he's got a good eye on the tactical situation.

Well, I understand REM's concern...but at the same time I don't really think Scooter *can* move up his attack date, really. His logistics were tight to begin with, and he gave his countdown first. Plus I don't think REM should be shocked that there are troops in DZland wink. Who knows? Maybe DZ turns out to be able to kill some Dreylinian troops too.

Plus, well - REM ought to be glad if Scooter starts off making good progress and threatens the core. Dreylin won't retreat/send reinforcements away from REM unless he actually feels threatened. I guess part of it is lurker omniscience, but Scooter doesn't have the mobility to make as much quick profit as REM is afraid of.

Fighting outside of ancient or medieval eras is so novel that this might as well be civ 5 (let's just ignore what Firaxis calls civ 5 lol). You see veteran civ 4 players saying all the time they've never even built things like Panzers or Navy Seals in 11 years.

I was skeptical about scooter's maskirovka, all that effort with ship facing and leaving Navigation promos off and so on...but it looks like it's worked, at least partially!

Couldn't hide the fact of invasion, nor the general theater, but even hiding timing is a strong advantage when the relative recon is that skewed!

I can't wait for the turn to actually roll...

I accepted both, although we'll be connecting our own source of dyes next turn. I figure it's worth the goodwill and helping REM is very much in our interest. If you want to offer another 2 gold for 2 gold trade (assuming we haven't done so already), be my guest. We're attacking in two turns.

The other thing is he has seriously pissed me off with refusing a simple wine for dyes trade a couple of times. He doesn't have it, and is not getting it from anyone else. Just a little war weary will cause me issues in the bigger cities (which both have theatres for the bonus) why not trade resources? It is bizarre how much that is annoying me.

So is this game really going to come down to someone screwing up the resource trades (or not double-checking their active trades)? Because Sullla is pretty sure he's accepted it. And REM is pretty sure they haven't.

I'm not sure why the countdown has confused REM so much.

I thought the exact same thing on both those points. Also I believe scooter does declare this turn, which REM has played and scooter hasn't because of turn splits? Am I reading that correctly? So from REM's perspective scooter hasn't declared on the turn he actually declares.

The whole cultural count down thing is weird, it never would have occurred to me some cultures go on "1" instead of the "timer" running out.... 3 seconds, 2 seconds, 1 second, ignition.

Yeah, I don't know why there's confusion over the countdown. I always assumed people did things like "three ... two .. one ... GO!" (i.e., go *after* the one, which is when the count is 0), which is the way scooter is doing it. That's the case in many video games I've played, including those with international audiences. Where is REM from again?

He's from Britain if I recall correctly.
