[LURKERS] Mr. Gradgrind's Review

REM draws first blood. Power demographics would be nice to have right now.

REM - you are definitely not capturing that city. I just hope Dreylin can't pull a similar trick on us.

Ehm... definitely not?

Summary...

Yaks taken for the loss of 2 inf (killed 5 inf, 1 airship)
1 frigate killed outside yaks
Yaks garrisoned to a small extent, but the farm/road to its west razed, preventing counter. He has no workers in range to remake this.
Galleon in Yaks with 2 inf.
Dogs razed for the loss of 1 rifle (1 rifle killed, the killing rifle at 1.1 health deleted after) The galleon outside I kept with 1 cavalry in. If it gets killed it gets killed.
Very cheeky offer of peace for 260 gpt. If he takes it I have a cracking eco advantage. If he doesn't he gets pummeled by 2 people... wink

I don't know if he had some more units to attack with but either way he lost surprisingly little there. I guess pics later might help smile

Dreylin has to pay up, I think.

Sullla is going to spit blood if REM signs peace.

There's no way Dreylin will agree to peace at a rate of 260 gold per turn lol

Or will they? shhh

260 gpt is a huge amount considering I think Dreylin is getting about 300 gpt 285 gpt (in some of his recent screenshots)... I don't know how one could accept that but things are not looking very good for Dreylin in any case alright. Actually, I wonder if he accepts how that will change Scooter's plans if at all?

Scooter and Sulla have been assuming those units were unpromoted. They appear to have the mechanics a bit mixed up, I think you only get the blue glow if the top unit has promos pending and you have no indication regarding the other units. In this case there's no blue glow because the machine gun is on top but all the infantry are double promo.

Combined with frigates to bombard the culture and airships to weaken the defenders, it's not hard to see REM having odds in all those battles. Dreylin really should have retreated there.

I think it's also pretty clear at this stage that Donovan invasion was a mistake. It has tied up a lot of resources for little permanent gains.

I think OT4E made the same mistake, Dreylin was pretty determined about retreating but OT4E said it would hold.

Considering scooter has even more promotions for his infantry, this first round might get ugly for Dreylin until he can counter attack. It's like Protoss vs Zerg (and I guess REM is the jack of all trades Terran. lol)

OT4E is also underestimating the XP on Scooter's ships, assuming they have enough XP for only one Navigation promotion, not two.

Well, remember that this is industrial era, so gpt at any moment is extremely variable. Two turns ago Dreylin managed to tech at about ~1000 bpt, so REM's asking for somewhere between a quarter and a third of Dreylin's output (in addition to keeping the city he took). That's right at the level where it's arguable.

10 turns might be enough for them to stabilize against Scooter and finish off Donovan; if they can limit Scooter's damage, maybe they can industrialize, as well. On the other hand, giving that much cash to REM would almost certainly let REM regain his miltech advantage, while using his army to make some gains elsewhere (BGN, I suspect) - so he'd be in much better shape for round 2.

I do rather expect Scoollla to be peeved, of course lol.

Well, that would explain a lot. I thought the glowing would show if there's any unit in the stack with promitons available.

Yeah, they had a pretty strong research recently, but wasn't that with tons of sage specialist + research builds + modifiers? I am not sure you can say 260 gpt is between 1/3 & 1/4 of their output. I can't imagine them making even close to that much of money even if they run a lot of wealth + merchants (I am not even sure they have the right civics for such); and wealth they can't afford to build during the war since they need to build troops almost everywhere. So if they give up 260 gpt it's effectively a lot more than 1/3 of their output IMO (they need money a lot more now than ever so beakers don't really matter that much). I'm a total noob to industrial era so I might be missing something obvious, but this is just how I see things here smile.
