Oh well. At end of turn we popped a Great Scientist, built the Hanging Gardens, and most surprising of all, got a free religion spread into The Emperor. So that's all pretty cool.
How many cities for the free pop? I built it in pbem 61 with about 25 cities a few turns before rifling... That was a nice boost!

Just nine. Still really nice to have, especially in my newer cities that have been feeling the whip and my GP farm.

By the power of Gottfried Leibniz (known best for being the Other Guy who invented calculus, and also for his ridiculous philosophical argument that this is the best of all possible worlds), it's Golden Age time!
Obligatory "check out my Moai city":
Obligatory "check out our demographics":
We're going to 1-turn some techs, cascade overflow, and I'm pretty sure we end this Golden Age with Guilds in our pocket.

Well, speaking of ending Golden Ages with Guilds, Jowy is going for that as well, so... ugh. Espionage shows 3t to go, though his GA is about to end.
Going to make use of the Judaism spread to the Magician to send a missionary to my capital, for the sake of the extra Monastery. Enjoy the 1gpt, greenline.
We also built another Worker, Kimaris. He appears as a mighty warrior on a black horse; bless our Knights, Kimaris!

Researched Machinery, built another Worker (Leraje, a Great Marquis of Hell, appearing as an archer all in green, who causes gangrene in those he shoots), built a few Stables and a Jewish Monastery in our capital. Jowy might get to Guilds first, but let's see if I can build up a more badass force of Knights sooner.

1-turned the Great Wall in my capital just for the bragging rights. Jowy gets Guilds this turn, but I get it next, and I have a number of Chariots/HA to upgrade into the bargain. I'll keep an eye on the power graph and see how it goes.

Oh right, I played a turn and now I should, like, update people or something.
Really, not much is happening. Golden Ages gonna Golden Age. Jowy is researching Engineering, presumably for Pikes. We'll see what I can make happen regardless -- large enough stack of 2-promo units should get work done.

Are you gonna use a slow stack or quick stack?

The dream is dead. Jowy offered me OB for 15 gpt, and I took the bribe.
Specifically, I took the bribe after closing trade, looking around the game without touching anything, examining my military screen, closing Civ 4 and thinking about it a lot while doing my work for the day.
There were several factors in my decision. I was not going to get a doom stack of Knights ready before Jowy had Pikes. The geometry of attack is really bad for me. But most importantly, I looked at the diplo screen, and everyone has like four more cities than I do. Holy Christ, no wonder I'm so behind in Food and my economy is so good. I need to be building Settlers, not Knights.
Tech path: Liberalism. Production path: Culture in border cities, finish the military builds I've already invested in, then Settlers, Settlers, Settlers.

Some people, people more bloody minded than myself, might argue that if you take three cities from a rival, and they lose three cities in the process, you suddenly have two more cities than they do and can still build Settlers...
Not an option?
