[spoilers] DTG thinks filthy casuals are ruining Realms Beyond

In the words of Sherlock Holmes:
![]() Hopefully nothing is broken. DTG, if it's all right with you, could you post our civ password in the thread/PM it after you create it? I won't change anything unless I'm subbing for you or some such, but if it's OK I'd like to pop in and look around so I can update sandbox/C&D when bored/that sort of thing. If you want to set it up and poke around now, feel free to do so. Otherwise, I can do it in ~12 hours. Let's make the password:
I went through a bit of an adventure trying to connect (tech thread has the details), but everything is now fine and our password is registered. Colors are nonstandard for people's civs, but we're a pleasing purple. I'm down with that. I did notice discrepancies from the BFC screenshot greenline gave us a while back: specifically, tile bleed indicates that there is definitely a lot of coast to our northwest. It seems we're in the center of a band of land, unclear whether peninsula or isthmus. I'd honestly found before moving the Scout, for the sake of the extra vision from having hill tiles in our culture, and then move probably northeast?
Lazy cloak and daggering: Three people have founded. The power of Arithmetic determined that their inner tiles are all land. I forgot to check if those people were any of the people we thought might be coastal, in case something wacky is going on. Score mouseover reveals that there are 2663 land tiles on the map, averaging 222/player. I have no idea whether or not that is a lot for a Large map.
Ugh, I'm not fond of how cramped our capital is. Particularly because it makes the classic "do a circuit of the capital with the starting unit for first-ring city locations" inefficient. I also really hope that we see Agriculture or Hunting food available; N of the Scout is an obvious first plant, but it claims no new food other than the Crabs, which would require a Fishing detour that keeps us even farther away from BW (though it will speed up Pottery, for what that's worth).
It'd be too far away for a first city, but based on those Whales I suspect the land east of us cuts south; the alternative is that the mapmaker is a troll who orphaned whales on purpose, which is wrong even if there's a good song about it.
Hey y'all,
Here's your sim. Sorry it took so long; I got very sick and then had to travel, so I sorta forgot. ![]() http://media.rhizzone.net/civ/map_fixed....wordWBSave
Thanks GJ! No worries; I already made a sandbox, though there's not much to do with it at the moment, until we get more map info.
Hey DTG, just so you know, I logged in the other day after everyone had played and StarDoor hadn't ended turn, and everyone who founded (everyone but Elkad) founded with the same number of land tiles as us, which makes me think that the initial BFCs were similar in structure, if not necessarily in details. This is a little weird (inland Carthage?) but Elkad is one of the people we pegged as potentially interested in the coast. Maybe everyone started like us, inland but in view of the coast, and Elkad saw resources outside the BFC and decided to move to the coast to claim them and leverage Org? Seems risky, but you pick Asoka if you're interested in playing the long game. That said, I hope we are near him so we can leverage his slow start ![]() ![]() ![]() Also, as inefficient as it is, I'd loop our scout back in another couple of turns if you don't spot land food for a good second city site to our northeast. I hate the wasted scout movement turns, but it'd really slow us down to settle a Fishing site as our second city, and it seems the land might open up more to our southwest. I'd love another corn or a pigs, and I'd even take a grass cow or rice. (June 27th, 2016, 16:29)picklepikkl Wrote: Thanks GJ! An inland Carthage will still be strong, as long as there's a lot of coastline (and it looks like there is). Plus, Borsche opted for Mehmed first, and I'm not sure if there were any other stronger civs than Carthage left by the time the pick had returned. Assuming the starts are largely mirrored, I'm not sure why you'd choose to move either. I think Eikad is on the more casual side of the casual/serious scale, though, so perhaps he felt like rolling the dice. Also, feel free to log-in as often as you'd like. ![]() (June 27th, 2016, 16:29)picklepikkl Wrote: Also, as inefficient as it is, I'd loop our scout back in another couple of turns if you don't spot land food for a good second city site to our northeast. If it is a Lake, we can just loop around it. We could also get a sense of how much territory our initial Quecha can explore, before Worker moves start being debatable. ---- Quick map update:
What sort of water is to the East and West? The hover will say 'fresh' for a lake and other (can't remember) for an ocean. Wales to the East pretty much says it is an ocean (doesn't it?)
I have finally decided to put down some cash and register a website. It is www.ruffhi.com. Now I remain free to move the hosting options without having to change the name of the site.
