Pitboss 35 IT and Tech Issues Thread

After the success of introducing the industrial era in PB33, who else is up to try another advanced era start?

This game has a signup list of exactly 7 players for the same reason as PB33 (splitting the religions evenly), if there are more players interest I encourage them to team up. Signups are expected to have a high PYFT rating due to high expected lurker interest, and are encouraged to be within a mid-high skill range (or to form a team with someone within that range) as an advanced era start is not a normal format and is less forgiving for mistakes.

While originally settings will only have been changed with a strong player consensus, my primary motivation for making the pre-game discussion a dictatorship is so that settings are decided on before/during signups are locked in, not after. That said, I am far from the best civ player here (not to mention rusty). In addition this game format is unexplored territory so despite best intentions it is very easy for an individual to miss something important when coming up with settings for this game. I highly encourage anyone (including players) with an opinion on improving game settings for either players or lurkers to PM me. I will consider any and all opinions, as all I want is a game enjoyable for everyone. smile

Also looking for a mapmaker and ideally a game admin.

Differences between Renaissance Era and Ancient Era starts:

Cities: All cities start with 2 pop, granary, forge, aqueduct and, if coastal, a lighthouse.
Starting Units: 2 Settlers, 2 Longbows, 1 Worker and 1 Explorer
Settlers: Are 248 hammers normally (275 combined with 10% general discount for Ren era start). EXP, IND and ORG leaders have a slight discount due to their free buildings being factored into settler cost.

Tech: Can initally research Astronomy, Education, Gunpowder, Nationalism and Printing Press. Everyone starts with all previous techs. Picture:

Builds available: See Picture:

Civics available: Roughly half of the civics are unlocked from the start. Picture:

Religions: At the end of T5, all 7 religions get founded. This is the primary reason why 7 players is ideal for this setup, so everyone gets access to a religion.

Claim your civ: (the password is sirian)

Version: BtS 3.19 6 Religion Mod v2 (can be downloaded on post 34 of this thread (here))
Starting Era: Renaissance
Players: 6 players

Map request (for mapmaker):
1) Balance + Playability
2) Enough water so that naval combat is a factor, but not so much that it dominates the game. (~20-30% water)

Other Map Settings:
Standard size
Normal speed
Prince Difficulty
7x7 starting visibility

House Rules:
Bans: Nukes, Blockades, Spy missions, Culture Bug, Aerial bombardment on improvements only (city bombardment allowed)
No: Huts, Events, Barbs, Vassal States, Tech Trading, Diplo Victory
Pitboss AI Diplo
Double move rule: Don't be a jerk
Details:
Diplomacy: "Pitboss-AI-diplo"
You can make any offers for any item the trade window allows you to make, excepting cities.
Any trades offered to another player are treated as valid trade offers.
You may not communicate using: chat box in diplomacy window, unit names, city names, outside communication, in game chat, anything else in this vein.
You may not gift units to or trade cities with another player.

Double moves: "Don't be a jerk."
Peace time or when you're not planning to start war: play as soon as you are able, no need to worry.
During war preparation turn (at least 1 turn before) and during war, double moves are not allowed. When you declare on your opponent (and then end turn), he must complete a turn before you can play another one.
When going to settle a city, and you see that another player has sent out a settler in the general vicinity as well, you must attempt to alternate turns, to avoid double moving someone to claim a city site.
If there is a situation not covered above, where a player gains a clear and 'underhanded' advantage over another player in an area of contention due to a double move, that situation can be appealed to the game admin, who can determine if the game needs to be reloaded or is fine to carry on at his discretion.
If there is a problem with play windows making it impossible to observe a turn split, or a tangled web of wars that need to be straightened out for turns to be practically played, please PM the game admin for assistance resolving the situation.

Leader/Civ selection:
Picking method: Snake pick
Snake pick bans: Justinian, India
Players will receive 7x7 starting screenshot before picking

In if a natural looking cylinder. So probably practically in with six.

I'd be interested, but my plate is full with 33. Maybe the next one.

Since it wasn't covered in the initial post, I would suggest thinking about a rule for planes. The player going second has an enormous advantage in modern wars because they can disconnect resources of the other player and prevent them from being able to build anything.

The 33 mid-game solution was to ban any air strikes on tiles. There were other proposals too. Seems important to figure that one out before launching the game.

If there was a way to evenly distribute religions, I'd be willing to accommodate this. Unfortunately since they are founded EoT5, I don't see how it's possible to either:
  • Change the number of religions to 6 (or however many) religions
  • Create a balanced cylinder with 7 people
Happy to have you if either can be done.

I feel a little bad that I posted the concept in your 33 thread and then started before that game is finished. Your welcome to join us in RMOG if we get started before then.

Good point, and is something I forgot to mention. I will look over the proposals later today and come up with a rule for aerial bombardment.

We're in no rush, I posted the game mainly to get an idea of numbers that would be interested. It also gives the mapmaker time to make the map.

If I could've guessed when 33 will end, I would've waited for it. Unfortunately the way the game is right now along with the frequent pauses, it's near impossible to guess when that will be.

I could mod the number of religions (down or up), if you'd like. I'd also be interested in teaming up with someone with more time and experience for this game.

Lurker civ is a no-mod method; can even put a barb 6 tiles away to eliminate after founding.

If there are seven interested, it's moot anyway, no worries.
