[TECH] Pitboss 33 IT and Tech Issues Thread

I'll have more to say tomorrow probably. I'm going to write up a post-mortem in my own thread before reading any of the other threads just to get my thoughts down. A couple quick things first.

REM - I did play the turn after flipping on my concede flag. Admittedly, I played it on autopilot a bit so my defenses will likely be shakier than they would otherwise be. It should be a decent approximation, but I wouldn't be surprised if you find a hole under the circumstances. Sounds like Dreylin will roll the turn, so feel free to take a stab at it.

Have a look at what I was about to do, and see what you would have done. Note that paratroopers can drop and raze on the same turn I found out recently.

I'm actually not quite sure what you're referring to. I don't see anything your Paratroopers can do, which may be showing my lack of understanding of them. I noticed you prepping them, but all I could figure is that it was just an attempt to keep me honest and hold defenders in place. Dreylin is about to complete his turn, so why not log in and demonstrate just to put the exclamation point on this thing? lol

Finally, I feel I should explain leaving Zipper so vulnerable, especially when it wasn't nearly as important to me as Spinning Jenny was. I seriously considered emptying it out and saving the huge Infantry stack, but a few things resulted in me trying to hold.

1) I figured you could kill it if you wanted, but I was hoping the presence of Dreylin would prevent you from doing so. I figured killing the city would be a bit of a pyrrhic victory because you'd lose a ton of units too in the counter-attack from Dreylin.

2) I underestimated your odds on top units after air strikes. This is purely an inexperience with planes on my end. So this made #1 worse because I expected your winning tanks to be much more shot-up than they actually were.

3) I would have gotten around a half-dozen Panzers into the city on the very next turn, which I think would have made a pretty big difference since they're basically anti-tanks. So there was a risk/reward on betting you would wait one more turn if you were going to move on it.

Well, I played the turn so feel free to have a look and see.

Unfortunately, REM correctly called that our Railway connection had holes and that I didn't have enough Workers in range and able to allow my stack to hit his. frown

I actually emailed brick pre signing up suggesting removing IMP from the traits as it was OPed. I think the org combo helped however. Sorry for the attack before the end with you being relatively peaceful... Just if you got oil ships up and jumped in against me then, well that would have been messy.

It's kind of funny reading through the posts right now. People gave me way too much credit.

Truth is, I never was motivated to play this from the start. I knew it when I said I'd sign up, but that was because it seemed like the signups were lagging and I really wanted to see the game happen, so I told myself I'd back out after it hit critical mass. Don't know why I didn't follow through on that plan, I should have.

That said, I was starting to get intrigued with the underdog role at the end and finding ideas on how to attack the juggernaut that was REM hammer

So here's the move I was gonna do. Just played it out quickly. I messed up doing it a bit actually.

With Dreylin planting there, he was kinda preventing himself from doing any meaningful counter, so I would have put the least damaged tanks in the transports/galleons and pushed hard here.

With the GG I would have made an 8 move transport to threaten Spinning Jenny also, but not upgraded it and hoped that you would have missed the little GG face on the transport. I would also have had 3 galleons full on that tile. It would have been messy, with you having a couple more ships possible to hit, but I think the inability to cause air damage on me and the coastal defence would have prevented you breaking the stack, leaving me open to hit a lot of cities. I might be wrong though and this could have been a disaster.

Not sure what you thought I could do, but you probably played too quickly to see that my Destroyers had moved N of Geese and could hit you through the new city. Might have made the difference to Scooter hitting that stack. noidea

So I logged in and threw my stack at yours just to see.

Not sure what Dreylin had in range (didn't bother running recon). Couple caveats.

1) I had pretty terrible RNG in this attack yet again. I would have expected at least 2 more victories given even odds.

2) Had I played the last turn seriously (notice I knocked it out in 20 mins, and that was with stepping away for 5 mins), I would have moved my Frigates to a spot where they would have been able to hit this tile. I would have suicided them into your top defenders, and that may have swung a few more fights too. Granted, repositioning them may have caused you to call off your attack. I was very aware of the possibility I would lose access to my fort (hence my comment about the Frigates), although I didn't know a Paratrooper could raze a fort like that. That's really odd.

So... I don't know. I did have a lot of units on boats that were able to react. Judging from your screenshot, I think I had enough to stop this particular attack(basically all my Galleons + my transport were loaded and able to get on rails). Although it was a moot point - you had it won anyway. Feel free to log into my civ and take a look. Password is "monty"

Now that this game's officially over, can someone explain what happened to DZ and I? I've remained unspoiled this whole time (which means I have some threads to read), but at some point DZ stopped reporting and we dropped to the bottom of the scoreboard from a decent position. Given the lack of communication I didn't want to interfere with anything DZ was doing (especially with turn splits I had no clue about), but I just want some clue to the radio silence (though I'll probably learn something from the lurker thread at least).

If I had seen that via a recon I admit that I would not have moved in for the attack at all. I didn't really throw much recon around chucking that turn out. I meant more land counter though, I was worried about you going for my city north of silkmoths on the flat.

Had a half-dozen Destroyers in range, which cleared out the hitters but didn't get down far enough to hit the Transports. 3 redlined Destroyers left.

@CH: no idea what happened to DZ's reporting, but briefly, OT4E & I happened to the civ. And then REM stepped in just as we were about to deliver the coup de gras and DZ effectively vassaled himself.
