Forums are now the Frontpage

I had been planning with some other members to do a reboot of the frontpage with updated style and content. However, we have all been very busy with no vision of when we could do that in sight. But the classic front page is still there and isn't a good first glance for people to see who we are and what we do.

So I have changed the website's default index page to redirect immediately to the forums index; anyone who types in http://www.realmsbeyond.net will come straight to the forums. The former front page is located at http://www.realmsbeyond.net/archive.html and can be reached from any forum page via the "Realms Beyond Archives" link in the footer.

Maybe it wouldn't hurt to make a special subforum/section with a lot of the important data aggregation/cleanup that has been talked about off and on over the years? The static webpage seemed to be disagreed on what content and style we wanted not to mention time to implement, leaving everything in the forums is starting to make more sense to me.

Thanks, this was a good move. Whatever we did on the front page would inevitably fall out of date anyway. The forums naturally and automatically float to the top whatever's currently active and yes really should be the front door nowadays.

Maybe put a link in the page header to that archive page. I really don't know how much of that content we'll ever reference again. The rules for Civ Epics are probably most likely, but if we start up any significant number of those for Civ 6, I'll bring them up to date and streamlined into a forum post.

I like this idea. The biggest challenge with updating the main page is that it would have had to be all at once, and pretty much just by you or KoP. A subforum for timeless stuff/table of contents/etc, on the other hand, everyone can chip in as they have time and good ideas.

Perhaps make it two subforums, one as the actual content and one as a discussion place for what should be promoted to the permanent record? So then I could start a thread about 'what are some good civ4 mechanics explanations', people could link/quote posts with things explained, and then I make a summary post that gets copied over to the other forum by a mod, and locked? But no one has to read the argument over whether SevenSpirits' or T-Hawk's post better explains exactly how the granary works, when looking for a granary explanation.

We could just have the discussions in whatever is already the appropriate section of the forum and then move finalized information to the "Important Things" subforum. In your example the civ 4 granary ideology battle takes place in Civ General, instead of making a new spot for those.

...fair point lol. Just need some way to flag posts as 'ok, we're done discussing, this one is the final version'. Which I suppose can be as simple as a thread in Admin Requests
