Rio Olympics 2016

Ah, track and field and swimming, the two things that three quarters of the world can't see thanks to NBC being all powerful. Thanks NBC for putting those events in the middle of the night for all of Africa Europe and the western half of Asia shakehead

Is that for sure? I have a hard time believing it for some reason. I knew Armstrong was doping, I knew Bonds was, but call me stupid I think Bolt is all natural.
There hasn't been a clean track and field in half a century.

Note the American performances plummeted after Marion Jones went to jail for lying about PEDs. Honestly the Olympics are taking on increasingly science-fictional dimensions. Straight steroids less so, but there are a hundred different options now for all the various sports. Beta blockers for the shooters, HGH for big mainline team sports, puberty-retardants in gymnastics, kind of thing. Being an Olympic athlete isn't exactly great for your long-term health.

Getting rid of the Russians was probably for the best, but I'm still not sure why Gatlin gets to be there. After the 1000th time you get caught there's just no way you've "learned your lesson".

I know it's not what they're optimizing for - but it seems possible to me that enough experimentation will eventually find something that *is* good for your long-term health.

Well, beta blockers sure are nice for tachycardia, and HGH helps numerous conditions, and steroids are good for recovery in some cases...I guess I can buy "yay, science experiments" as the reaction.

More generally, exercise, like anything else, can be too much of a good thing. Marathoners having the same life expectancy as the obese, CrossFit guys pooping out organs...

On the opposite side of that, as someone in the US, I'd really like to be watching something other than endless swimming. <Sigh> Oh look Water Polo. rolleye

I am thoroughly sick of the swimming. Admittedly that is because the US won every 2nd gold medal (Aust came 2nd in the medal tally with 3 gold ... maybe more honest to say US 1st, daylight, daylight and then Aust and Hungry).

The streaming option is great, get to watch some weight lifting, non-US teams playing basketball, discus, hammer throw, high jump, fencing, etc.
I have finally decided to put down some cash and register a website. It is www.ruffhi.com. Now I remain free to move the hosting options without having to change the name of the site.

It really is a lose lose situation. I'm sick of all the fencing and judo we got. Apparently we'll be getting a full week of boxing and cycling now. Thankfully we have 5 good teams in handball basketball and men's volleyball to stop it from being too monotonous.

Ooo, Fencing would be fascinating (at least for 5mins wink ). I'd been hoping to catch a chunk of the Rowing because when we lived in Rio the back of our apartment had a view over/between some buildings out onto the Lagoa, but didn't manage to see much apart from podiums (podii / podia!?).

I think Ruff's probably right that the only way to really do it justice is to get some streaming options that let you pick from some feeds. Maybe in 4yrs time....

Like this? Every event is streamed live. The "Gold Zone" channel is my lunchtime drug of choice.

Apparently I also need a new job that will let me watch the streams while at work.... frown
