Apparently we'll be getting a full week of boxing and cycling now. Thankfully we have 5 good teams in handball basketball and men's volleyball to stop it from being too monotonous.
Ooo, Fencing would be fascinating (at least for 5mins ). I'd been hoping to catch a chunk of the Rowing because when we lived in Rio the back of our apartment had a view over/between some buildings out onto the Lagoa, but didn't manage to see much apart from podiums (podii / podia!?).
I think Ruff's probably right that the only way to really do it justice is to get some streaming options that let you pick from some feeds. Maybe in 4yrs time....
Fencing is nice, but it's not really a curiosity here as we have many good fencers and some competitions are broadcasted between Olympiads. Rowing is over I think, but there is canoe/kayak in the same location this week.

Commentator on the pole vault was killing it. I don't think I've ever watched an event because of the commentary before. Course, it helped that the finale went down to the wire.

The BBC normally has about 8 streams on the TV you can flip between at any given time. My American wife still complains its not showing the particular sport she wants to watch america in, but it does still give you variety (commentary is a bit sparse on some of the feeds though)

I hope the NBC streaming app keeps the footage for a while ... sooo many finals to go back and watch.
Speaking of different quality commentary ... here is a link from London (I think) ...

I have finally decided to put down some cash and register a website. It is www.ruffhi.com. Now I remain free to move the hosting options without having to change the name of the site.

I'm very happy with the men's Pole Vault result. I understand Lavillenie complaints (not the Godwin's Law one, that was ridiculous), though I have my doubts that spectators in other countries don't root for their own athletes too. I feel there's a lot of third world hate in comments like that, but I'm probably biased about it.
I'm watching a lot of the Olympics, since the main network here has 16 channels to choose from. I quite liked table tennis and watched a bit of everyhting else too. I saw live the guy who broke his arm in weightlifting and now I can stand watching it again.

In track and field events I've never heard of an athlete being booed because he's facing a local athlete, they're sometimes even supported by the public (but not always). At worst there's a few cheers when he misses but nothing more.
Lavillenie's 1936 comment may be true for all I know but was unnecessary (as he said in his later apology). A better formulation would be that in his generation or in his parents' one no athlete has been treated like that in a track and field event.

Don't eat and watch the Olympics at the same time (or these pictures).

And now it's taking a few more twists. I don't really understand why they're being treated like criminals here. Two of the swimmers got yanked off their plane and their passports confiscated on the tarmac last night. What's the motivation for making something like this up? Another report came up this morning that a British Olympian was robbed at gunpoint now in a separate event.
Ichabod, how is this being portrayed in Brazil? Is there something I'm missing here?
