Civ5 PBEM 5 Organizing Thread

With Civ6 just 2 months away, I wanted to see if there's any interest in giving Civ5 a little bit of a send-off, so that it doesn't just quietly fade into obscurity. Thinking just a regular BNW PBEM, although if there's a twist you guys would be interested in trying, I would certainly be up for it smile

I haven't bothered to put a lot of thought into civ 5 playing (only have 80 hours in it, and never played to optimize stuff) so if in the end you need one more player to fill the ranks I'll play. I don't want to take a spot from someone who'll be actually relevant in the game though.

I never played to optimise either - admittedly only minor optimisation is needed to beat Civ5 single player, even on deity. I'll put you down as a tentative sign-up smile

I'm potentially interested, depending on the settings. I would prefer a fast game with ca. 6 players and a fair bit of early combat instead of the usual tradition turtling. I played it a lot (1000+h) until I lost interest, starting with SP and plying more MP later on. My interest in SP was rekindled by the best SP mod http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=550671. Unfortunatelyt is not for MP and the main MP mod (NQ-mod) is not very good in my opinion.

I would be as excited to instead try to make a balanced/interesting map and watch you play if you need a map creator.

How would you enforce early combat? I don't believe Civ5 has an Always War option

You don't need an option. You just have everyone declare and stay at war with everyone. That's how we played AW in Civ 3 before it became an official option.

I'm in.

You do not necessarily need to have always war. I would plan on: 1) avoiding too defensive terrain like long mountain chains 2) putting more of the good resources (especially luxes) in central places, rather than in the capitol 3) restricting the civ choices a bit. You want to open up for other strategies while not forcing the players hand too much.

I'm not really interested in an AW game

Ok let's lock in no AW, although a map which encourages early(ish) aggression would be welcome. I don't think the game would devolve into Tradition turtling anyway, in the past games there always was at least someone going Liberty (Pyramids is a good wonder), and rushing someone who's running farmer gambit is a long-standing RB tradition smile

chumchu, can I take you up on your mapmaking suggestion then please? Assuming the game gets off the ground, but looks promising so far smile
