how to set up or join an EitB pbem (new member)

Hi.

I've been lurking here for a a long time. Accidentally found the forum when I was looking for some additional info on FFH2.

At first, it was just about getting the strategy info about various civs (FFH can be overwhelming when you first get into it), but after I while I noticed I was reading about the games just for the fun of it.

Lately, I've been thinking it might be fun to actually try an MP game.

So, what do I do/who do I talk to for that?

Also, are you guys ok with a player who would definitely be below average here? In most video games it's not a problem, but in FFH/EitB, it can alter the overall balance of the game, if a good player conquers the weak player, due to snowballing effect.

Welcome!

We're always looking for new blood to infuse the EitB scene here; it's been running a bit cold recently, but we've actually just started a large new game: http://www.realmsbeyond.net/forums/forum...hp?fid=260

Unfortunately that probably means that the chance of starting another game in the near future are pretty low, but the good news is that I'm sure that any of the players would be happy to have you dedlurk them (i.e. only read the one thread and as a result be able to post suggestions / engage in discussions of choices & civ direction, etc.) which is a great way to get a bit more involved and learn more. You said that you've read some of the previous games, so I'd recommend finding someone whose reporting style you enjoy and/or you have interest in whichever civ they are playing this time around.

As for looking for interest in a new game, well posting here is pretty-much how it's done!

Thanks, I'll try that.

But, from what I've been able to understand, dedicated lurker is supposed to work as a sort of an advisor to the player, offering "second opinions" in the lack of a better term. I would be of little help to more experienced players.

That's certainly one aspect - and never underestimate the value of a second opinion to trigger discussion and reevaluation - but the other is that they are able to ask "why are you doing that?" type questions freely, which general Lurkers often can't do because of the perception of the outside knowledge they have from other threads.

Welcome, nice to see new FFH/EitB players!

Yeah, sometimes it's hard to question yourself when playing solo, which means that even "stupid" questions can lead the player thinking outside the box.

I'd suggest putting your two cents in one the threads of the new EitB game by dedlurking someone. That way you might probably learn most as you can ask whatever questions you want to without breaking any rules.

Oh, you had me at welcome.

If you don't have a dedlurker so far, I'd be perfectly willing to ask you stupid questions 'till the cows come home.

I don't have anyone definitively signed up right now, so stop by ... as long as you don't mind often stupid answers!
