I'll throw some up next turn.

It's all good. I have some specific points (strat resources for one) that I will specifically make, but its a tough, thankless job.

EDIT: I did beg Stardoor's lone hooked up copper. I don't know why he hasn't hooked up his other one nor his horse. I hope he gives it to us. If he does, we could actually live quite a bit longer and found a new city.

FURTHER EDITS: We have 4 archers in a 4 pop city. We might as well be the barbarian civ. God I wish I didn't delete that worker.

Stardoor didn't trade metal. It's funny because he has 3 copper (presumably) in his borders.

There's no way to make this sort of post without sounding like a sore loser. That is not my intent. Greenline, don't take this personally or as an indictment of any kind. This is mainly a cathartic exercise. With that said, commence with the map kvetching!

General overview of our lands. Compare that are neighbors are not squeezed to their north (for whatever reason). It isn't clear if both northern neighbors chose to settle elsewhere or what the deal is.

My only semi-complaint about anything is our distance to and placement of strategic resources. See that Stardoor and OT4E both have horses within 4 tiles of their cap, not to mention easier access to bronze:

This really hurts us as the squeezed party. See the cow city we had to settle, for instance.

Our horses were very far away and awkwardly placed. Our third city was probably meant to be 1SW or 1S of the horse. Problem is it took until T58ish for AH to be teched given early archery, so we reached for a pigs city.

A little miffed that stardoors 2nd city is in an ideal defensible spot whereas our bronze city had to be settled on a goddamn cow for defensive purposes (which I messed up ultimately anyway). C'est la vie. Same goes for his Holy Lighthouse city. Not only did we get squeezed, but we didn't really get the benefit of better early cities either.

Those strike me as perfectly fair complaints.

The issue with the horses resulted from me having to repeatedly revise a different map issue and not having much time to look at each individual start beyond affirming they each had a particular clump of resources. It would be less of an issue here if the starts weren't so squeezed (someone did point this out to me, but my attempted fix did not work owing to the optical illusion that makes diagonal distances appear longer then they actually are in this game). Sucks that you guys had to bear the brunt of it here.

(Also, the 'holy lighthouse' spot doesn't look THAT good to me)

Other than planting directly on the NE cow, which captures 4 lakes, I don't see a lighthouse-able spot on that last screenshot that captures more than 3 lakes...

I don't think it's so much the number of lighthousable lakes, but the combination of 3 lakes, oasis, fish, pigs, grass cow, grass horse, copper (plus bonus fur and silks).

Relative to the other city sites that we've seen, it's a monster.

Thanks for your thoughtful response. I know the mapmaking process is thankless and am happy we had a map to play.

I will now attempt to walk back "Holy Lighthouse" by remarking I suppose I was impressed with how good that city is rather than a broken "lighthouse" city. Like ipecac said, we will stay on message. hatsoff

Oh, and ipecac and I are not globally spoiled on PB31 so you might want to edit that part out.
