Predefined items

(September 8th, 2016, 20:43)Seravy Wrote: It's not possible to change the number of predefined items. There are 250 of them. I've already replaced 99% of them (mainly because the originals had horrible design like doom on an illusion weapon and also because I added new abilities, removed some old ones and changed how much of each stats an item can have, some for higher some for lower), most of those are reaplaced with better items, not worse ones. It's just that the first time I did it I went overboard and items became far too good. Like, over half the items ware +6 attack +6 defense invulnerability haste good. So I was slowly making changes to have a balanced set that has interesting items for both strong and weaker ones.

In short the problem is not -for example- having wraith form items. The problem is, in a typical game I got enough to have one on all 6 of my heroes because there was so many out of those 250. All the while there was no item that could cast Black Sleep or Fire Bolt.

I meant specifically doing things like making teleport weapon only. Rebalancing the numbers on all the items is fine, I'd just hate to see various archtypes of item totally disappear. For example as long as a couple wraith form items are left in that's fine with me, I just wouldn't want them removed entirely. Finding cool items is a lot more fun for me than playing an artificer, as long as there's 1 predefined item in the pool for everything though that satisfies my curiousity. I'd hate for there to be overpowered item types you could only create via create artifact.

Although adding a black sleep stick to the predefined items is IMO a really good choice because that's the sort of item an artificer human being might want to craft to get an advantage.

I won't remove anything entirely (except for Magic Immunity which only exists on two predefined items and nothing else and cannot be enchanted, for obvious balance problems).
Every other ability will always remain available and on some items (though of course there are restrictions like some abilities only going into weapons or armors, these are necessary to keep the game not crash from excessive long ability lists)

I did add a Black Sleep item, though it's a bow. I also added a fire bolt wand, an aether sparks wand, a lightning bolt want, etc. in the 2.71 patch.

After a few more updates to the item list, I think the majority of items are now interesting and fun.

A quick look through the table (including today's not yet released changes), these are all the items I would rate perfect-near perfect or top tier - note that items with mostly support abilities such as movement, waterwalk, pathfinding etc will not be included even if they have high stats and are very useful. I consider them more of the "good" category than gamewinning.

Impossible items
Item you cannot craft since they contain something not available for crafting in that item type, or at all normally. Impossible stat is bold.
1. Sword 6 DEF, Elemental Armor, Magic Immunity, Exorcist
2. Accessory Flight, Teleportation, Regeneration, Magic Immunity
3. Accessory Divine Protection, Planar Travel, Haste, -3 Spell Save
4. Staff 6 ATK, 3 HIT, Lightning
5. Accessory Divine Protection, Lion Heart, Invulnerability, +6 Resistance

12. Accessory 4 DEF, 20 Skill, Lion Heart, -3 Spell Save
13. Staff 6 ATK, -3 Spell Save, Invisibility
14. Accessory 20 Skill, Planar Travel, Invisibility, -3 Spell Save
15. Staff 6 ATK, 6 DEF, 3 HIT, Haste (wand with 3 ATK is possible, Staff cannot have hit)

This means about 6% of the slots are used for ultimate items, and about 22% are either very good or contain otherwise unobtainable stats.
The remaining ~72% of the slots are used by low or medium cost items, and I revised most of those to make sure there are more interesting ones than before.
