CONDUCTOR is red

I lean more toward Genius though. I think of someone like Mozart as being a prodigy, for sure, but I'm not sure "genius" would have naturally followed Conductor. Probably would have recommended "Note" instead.

Ah, NOTE. Yes, that must be the reason. I wonder if it's the assassin? That would explain the lack of musical clues (for all of JAM, CONDUCTOR, and GENIUS). Maybe we were supposed to guess JAM/BED for Pearl, which would leave FIGURE/DIAMOND/SCREEN for something like Crystal.

Anyway, I lean towards GENIUS, too. We can't be expected to know if Ampere was Czech; if you wanted to clue that word, you'd go for a more obvious Central European or even Russian name. Or, you know, something like Berlin for WALL/CZECH (once EUROPE was out of the way).

sure I like that reasoning for genius.

Sorry, team, that was 100% my fault. Going for an extra word on Satyr was pointless, since I didn't have anything better for Australia+Bell than for Australia+Europe+Bell.

Displacement: 3. Right after I clued this, I realized that CAR engines are rated by displacement (e.g. 2 liters). Fortunately, no one went there; I guess the overlap between Civ players and motorheads is pretty small.

What I was actually going for here was Mass, Force, (Diving) Bell. I was having fits with finding clues for Bell throughout the game.

Satyr: 3. Going for Centaur, Flute, Europe. As I said before, I should have been happy with the first two. My only excuse is that I was trying to put some pressure on David C.

Continent: 2. In retrospect, I should have clued Continent: 1, since you guys were going in the wrong direction on the third Satyr word. This may well have been enough for the blue team to pick up Bed, though.

Well, played, Red. Sorry again, blue team.

I wondered if Satyr might not be for Europe. It's a problem that we have here, particularly for Americans, when we think of things as being European hoping to clue that, when it's not a primary characteristic of the thing. I had the same issue trying to connect witch and Europe. There are plenty of European witches (Strega Nona, Lutzelfrau, and what I wound up going with, Hermione), but connecting them to Europe in particular isn't easy.

GG guys! The slow-and-steady approach clearly paid off here, so well done David!

Good game, everyone. And well done, David; that was a tough board. I'm always impressed at how random generation can produce such tricky puzzles. The mark of a well-designed game.

Good game all! BELL is really tough to pair, especially with NOTE as the assassin. Perhaps an ear play on Liberty ~, ~ Pepper, or ~ Curve could've worked? A tricky board, indeed.
