[SPOILERS] - Pindicator gets lost on his way to Civ6

So yeah, I did not expect to ever play another game of civ 5 again. Why am I in this one then? Call it a case of community building: there are people who do want to play and they needed another to get the game together, so I can give enough time to make sure they can get their game in.

I can't promise a lot of strategy, or posting, or even competence. I was never innately as good at CiV as I was with Civ4 (and I'd argue I'm over-estimated in my civ 4 prowess), and never liked the game enough to want to get better. I'm also devoting my gaming attention & energy to pb34 and will always put that game first.

That said, I hope I can play a good enough game to be a decently sized speed bump on someone's path to victory. And give an entertaining post every now and then.

Do you want me to stay as a dedlurker ? I haven't spoiled myself yet

If you want to stay on as a ded-lurker then I'm okay with that. But I'm not likely to be a frequent updater. Still, I imagine it would be helpful to have someone around who knows what they're doing lol

Turn 000

I settled on the dyes, because I heard that's what people do in Civ V

[Image: ?interpolation=lanczos-none&output-forma...olor=black]

Thought about waiting another turn to settle farther inland and grab the gold in the radius, but decided against wandering in the fog. Ideally the next city will grab the gold and turn into a crazy Petra / Desert Folklore monster. This reminds me, I should see if anything is banned....

Scout first to look for huts.

Pottery first because we're food-poor and a granary would be awesome.

Did I screw anything up yet?

Knows what they're doing ? That's certainly not me smile

If you don't update in a while I'll start looking at the other threads but I'll stay for now.

My plan for Rome was to settle the PH by the fish because the cap needs to have good production to make use of the UP. Your spot is better for France, putting castels everywhere for a super culture cap

Yeah, I was thinking that the capital was naturally going to have better production by virtue of going first - at least for all the basic buildings a new city is going to want to get up and running. I also had a vague recollection that coast was bad for a capital? Maybe Rome wants a coastal capital to better leverage the UA. So perhaps that was a bit of me playing this like it's civ4.

Coast is rather bad but that's a lake (I asked in my thread, 3f seemed too much) so it's fine. Anyway what's done is done.

Coast is bad only because you get fewer land tiles to choose from. A coastal capital can indeed be useful for Rome if you get more coastal cities to leverage the bonus.

The capital of any civ does easily get ahead of other cities in development, though, at least up through universities or so. You should have no trouble getting Rome's bonus for lots of stuff in the first half of the game, although that lack of hills is going to start showing in the second.

Well, I can't say I know how impactful the 2nd half of the game will be, but I'm counting on the bonus only really being useful for the first half of the game. I assume that by the 2nd I've either won or I've lost since this is a snowball game.

Turn 002

Found a friend

And here's what we've scouted so far:

I'll probably have the warrior just circle around the immediate around, and the scouts will go out in opposite directions into the wilds.

Weekend Update: Turns 003 - 005

Our warrior found ruins t3

Which turned into a unit upgrade

Scout finished on t4 and promptly found some more ruins:

Which turned into a pop growth for the capital on t5.

The capital also naturally grew on t5 and so i decided to burn 30g to get a productive tile now. I could have waited 5 turns to naturally get one of two tiles, so I decided burning the gold here so I would keep growing (even if a little) and gaining a tile that also produces 2g on its own would help make it up.

2nd scout will be out in 2 turns, and then we'll start the granary. Or should I build a worker instead?
