ARGGH! When this is over, we should have a game of Europeans versus Americans so that we have cultural touchstones all the same. Even if I did think of Reading as a location, it would be Pennsylvania more than England.

Or Reading, Ohio, which is ten miles or so from my house. The other assassin was due to an English vs. US English confusion, also.

Not meant to be an excuse; the spymaster has to shoulder the blame for the assassin. Sorry, team (this is my final word two games in a row now ).

The last atom word was GAS. I thought very few words would lead to sub-atomic theory, but didn't realize that the team would lean to WAR via the atomic bomb. Molecule 2 would have been much better.

I knew this round was going to be messy, DaveV had to hit LOCH NESS while avoiding ENGLAND, while I couldn't come up with a 3 word that didn't hit blue (with SOLDIER/WAR, DOCTOR/TABLET and FILM/NOVEL all on opposite team colours). With tablet off the board, I would have next clued:

Nutritionist 3 (doctor/chocolate/orange) (may hit HAM but that's ok)
Gandalf 2 (film/staff)

If DaveV left tablet on the board, I would've had to go:

House 3 (doctor/staff/film) (House is a show about a DOCTOR on tv/FILM, and has a walking cane/STAFF)
Jaffa 2 (chocolate/orange)

But there would be a strong chance of the team not going in the right direction for House (all 3 words link to the TV show, but with no words linking to home improvement and DOCTOR right there, it might be worth the risk) so happy I didn't have to resort to that.

So is that the 3rd assassin? I knew about the one in 11-3 but didn't realize there was one in 1-1. On a unrelated note, I claim the most civ relevant clue ever with Cossack 2.

I wouldn't mind being spymaster again. I've done that a lot recently though so if anyone else on red wants a turn they should definitely have priority over me.

I'd like to settle the pronunciation debate before the next round starts. I think we either have to provide pronunciation always, or never. Otherwise, not providing a pronunciation could be a clear clue (as in the case we just had). No pronunciation is the easiest way to go, since there's no widely agreed method of providing it.

I generally agree. The only issue is that the spymaster loses the ability to steer towards a specific pronunciation for no real reason (while the board game version has the ability to steer the team towards a specific spelling). I wouldn't mind the spymaster being able to provide pronunciation as long as they provide it at the same time as the clue. Coming up with a method of providing pronunciation is the issue though, until the time if/when we come up with that I agree that no pronunciation should be allowed.

It definitely shouldn't be always required, to mirror the original rules' intent that words with the same spelling but a different pronunciation are allowed as one clue.

I have no problem with us either agreeing on "the spymaster may never provide pronunciation" or "the spymaster may provide pronunciation with the original clue but cannot be asked for a pronunciation".
