After thinking about it some more, I just can't justify getting a Prophet as the Liberty finisher. Setting back the first scientist/engineer (as well as the first naturally generated prophet) is just too big of a penalty to take. I wonder if that's bad coding on Firaxis part or it's just a stupid rule... Whatever it is, it makes that option too costly.
Besides, I'll actually want some faith production for the enhancement and the religious buildings, so might as well work on it from the beginning. I have to accept I'll lose the first religion to Ethiopia and concentrate on getting the second one/getting there before Ethiopia enhances. And, well, it'll be all shrine based, because the terrain really doesn't fit for any of the faith generating pantheons... I'm also guessing there's no religious CSs on the map.
It's frustrating, though, as I think a great suggestion is ruined by what appears to be unintentional behaviour from the game. Either that or the Civ 5 devs just hate the player (I actually get that feeling a lot, playing Civ 5).

They did it to prevent liberty from being better for religion then piety. I can see the point but I would have done it some other way.

Hurray for free Pop
So I see a city getting Fur and truffles and a another one for Cotton and gold.
I would prefer the later one to be settled first.

Scout found a third hut, which gave the always-feels-unwelcome map result. It revealed a peninsula, which at least helps my scout know that going there is a waste of time. So, scout will head southeast for now.
We found a second city state, which gave only 15 gold. So, there's someone down there. Also, a barb camp very close, which we'll let up until Almaty wants it dead. Free friendship, here we go!
We met Oledavy of Russia to the east. I decided to be annoying and move my warrior in a way that I'd always be one step ahead of exploration to the south. By doing this, I can guarantee that I'll take all ruins for me.
And the tactics worked! I ended turn 1SE of the tile the warrior was on. If I moved to the hill, Dave could move south, see the hut, and declare war on me to ZOC me out of getting it. I don't want to risk losing it. Hopefully Dave moves south, so I ca tilt him by getting the hut before him.
On domestic news, the city borders expanded to where I wanted them, which was pretty nice. Now, we'll have to get the luxury before the other good tile yields (and according to tile gold value, there's a chance the stupid city will grow to a bare plains instead of a resource ), but at least we already have pretty good tiles to work until size 4. We are also teching AH, so there's a chance horses will appear somewhere close.

After some delays, we are back on track. I had to wait more than 2 days to open my new goody hut and that was incredibly hard. I don't know how I've made it...
Well, aren't we the cultured ones. This way, we'll be reaching the key Liberty policy (collective rule, the settler one) in no time.
We also got some bonus hammers with it, since we now had enough to finish Republic. I'm pretty happy with my ruins results so far and I'll be satisfied even if I don't find any new ones. I wonder if my opponents went for the 2 scout opening that is common for Tradition... If that's the case, I also can't really expect to get much more ruins.
I went for the shrine first, before granary. I don't feel we get much more growing past size 3 for now, so the granary can wait a bit, I think. Next tile the city will grow into is the cotton, for sure, which I don't care about working. Hopefully we'll have the granary when we start working the deer. It's worth noticing that I'm already going broke (in my Brazil game, I was constantly losing science due to gold deficit, which is really annoying).
Dave's warrior went southwest, and I'll likely follow the river with my warrior, before turning back to help escort the coming settler. I want to know where Dave's Capital is, to know the relative distances of our Capitals from these spots. On disadvantage of my coastal Capital placement is that I'm further away from the rest of the map, so settling will take a little longer.
I wonder if I can reach that wine tile with one of my cities. Even if Dave's close, I don't think he'd give up on his plans to attack me due to a pink dot in his face. He's too much of a builder/planner/likes to see big demographic numbers. We'll see...

Great result with the next culture In 9 turns we will have the free settler
If we can reach the wine/gold region we should think about Religious Idols as Parthenon (+1 faith/culture for each gold/silver tile).
And I think we need another warrior if we want to stretch that far.

I don't think we'll be getting that far. Because:
Dave is really close to that spot. This also shows that Capital's aren't mirrored (not even close to that), which I had as a given, I don't really know why.
A bit later, I also found Pindicator.
Well, the religion plan just got a lot harder. As expected, Nicolae already got a Pantheon (I think it was Nicolae, maybe I'm failing my assumptions again), and with Ethiopia, he'll be first to religion. Ah, the Pantheon was +1 culture from Pastures, if I'm not mistaken. And as you can see, Dave and Pindicator have land suited for faith pantheons, with the Wine and desert bonuses. I, on the other hand, can't do anything for faith...
Anyway, we need to play to our opening strenghts, so I'm hoping we can send our first settler to this prime spot here:
We secure a decent amount of land with that plant, although it's not really that much. Liberty likely wants more than that, though going Tradition also seems like a meh choice with my land (especially considering I'd never get the red circle spot with a Tradition opening). It's just a not that great start overall (not saying relative to my opponents, but in an absolute sense, regarding what Civ 5 is capable of).
Notice that the proposed city is on a hill, which helps with defending it. The terrain is also pretty defensible, with a mountain and marsh to hamper the enemy approach. Next turn, I can finish scouting the area, allowing a better sense to what is avaiable.
It's time to bactrack my warrior too. Need to protect that Settler that is coming soon.
I think my mid-game plan has to be attacking Davey with crossbows. Thing is, I can't win with just my little stretch of land, not with my SP opening, I need to conquer someone, and Xbows is where I'll have a nice production and military tech compared to everyone else going for Education. Hopefully Dave goes tradition, into libraries and wonders, while I soldier on to Machinery (hopefully getting Colossus along the way). Perhaps I can even time my Liberty GA to match with the attack? That would be very nice.
We'll see...
By the way, it was only 2 turns sice last report. The game is moving very slowly...
