So bulb Economics and use that Merchant to bulb Constitution? What's wrong with that, other than maybe burning a turn or two of research?

Hah, I pieced this together about 15 minutes after my last post. I ALSO forgot that Corporation requires Constitution. Fortunately too I put just enough beakers into Economics to complete it mid-turn with the bulb, generating the second Merchant immediately which then completed Constitution mid-turn which means I can still revolt into Representation as planned. Phew, crisis averted.
You can proceed straight from feeling bad for me to laughing at me.
More details later.

No, scooter, this is still a game-ending fuckup, you need to go back to panicking. You obsoleted your Castles.
Obsolete. Castles. Game over, man.

Honestly, unless you had a plan for the Economics Merchant, this might be better: denying the Merchant to anyone else for certain, researching a tech you'll need to research eventually, and maybe you'll find a use for Free Market sometime?
As for Castles, are they ever useful? They have powerful stats, but require you to go out of your way for them (the infrastructure path wants Liberalism, the military path wants Knights), even before you consider that RB nerfs dedicated Espionage to irrelevance--I wish Krill was willing to accept active espionage as a thing so we can try it in a SMEG game, but that's very off-topic.

Castles can be a good deterrence when combined with pikes, if your neighbor has a big knight stack looking at your one close border city,
