That's perfect progression for a game, IMO.
Agreed. It's so much fun to follow this game. Props to Mardoc!

So who are people's bets on for the SoL?

My money is on scooter. He seems pretty decided on it while I could see Nic/REM going for something like Astro/Rifles first.

I'm pretty curious about who is winning the race for these islands, considering they're the main contested land on the map.
There are 6 mineral island available for each player. Which one they think is 'naturally theirs' seems to depend on their dotmap. Anyway, these islands are split between 3 players so people should average two each.
Then there's two copper islands and people should average 1 each, again dotmap dependent.
RMOG: 4 islands; 2 copper, 1 gold, 1 silver
REM/Nic: 4 islands; 1 copper, 1 gold, 2 silver
Scooter: 2 islands: 1 copper, 1 silver
Plako: 2 islands; 1 copper, 1 gold
Mack: 2 islands; 1 silver, 1 gold
Alhazard: 1 island; 1 gold
Unassigned:
copper island between Mack and plako - We have no information here, but Mack settled on the coast pretty early, so I'd say he got it.
gold between Scooter, Mack, RMOG - definitely still unsettled
silver between Plako, Al, Mack - looks like plako's mainland culture covers a lot of this but it could still be sniped by Mack.
It'd be interesting to add the contested isthmus' into the analysis.

The islands are pretty interesting. On one hand, its gonna be pretty difficult to invade someone (without them completely seeing it coming) without controlling a corresponding island near them, as you're gonna be sending your ships right through that area. More islands = more attack opportunities. On the other hand, they're some of the only contested land on the map and thus one of the only real ways to antagonize a neighbor. (e.g. if someone else settles on "your" silver island, their culture is gonna be all up in your face) More islands = more paranoia.
The islands are pretty crummy yield-wise though, so they're pretty good crumple zone for your core. I think I'd want to end up with as many as I could.

Alhazard's economy.... YIKES. I made the mistake of assuming he hadn't completely killed himself for the early tech lead but he must have like 8 workers.
Will be interesting to see if he can dig himself out of that hole to at least be a threat to someone. He needs gunpowder NOW.

I wasn't sure what you were talking about, as he hasn't updated in awhile, but I just saw Nick posted this GNP graph:
YIKES.

Yeah, seems I was a bit premature with the island ownership.
I'm really not sure of the thinking going on in the REM/Nic thread right. Their plan to win the SoL seems very weak. They know Scooter has a GE stashed to beat them in production and that's he currently ahead of them in tech by Printing Press. They seem to expect to beat him to the tech but researching twice as fast as him does not seem realistic to me. And their plan to make up the hammer deficit is an 160h(80 base) overflow cascade and a golden age. That's not going to compete with the 700+ of an engineer.
They're talking like there's no downside, but if you fail on the SoL you've wasted ~2.5k beakers on an otherwise pretty useless Democracy tech(at least with Spiritual the civics will do something). That would definitely drop them out of the lead IMO.
The only saving grace is that Scooter is whipping settlers instead of growing his capital and working on his cascade. If you're gambling your game on the wonder then put everything into it man! You probably get more raw output from the GE and earlier SoL than the earlier cities anyway. Still, I think he has too many advantages to lose it right now.

True, they both made only half of possible efforts and it seems they dont realise that there is a race. Though the game is not going to be decided by 1 wonder.

Yeah, I agree that winning the wonder won't decide the game, but if you research Democracy then you have to land it or it's a massive waste of resources.
