[Spoiler] Wife Grabs Civ VI Box ... says 'Excellent Christmas Gift'

Ordered Civ VI a few days before launch.  Amazon can't fulfill order because of demand ... and when it does turn up about a week after launch ... Wife spies it and says 'What an excellent Christmas gift for you' and ... bammm ... it disappears into the Christmas cupboard not to be seen again until December 25th.

ruff_hi: 0000-0300 GMT
ipecac: 1100-1500 GMT
commodore: 1600-1700 GMT
greenline: 2200-0000 GMT

Hmm ... this new, fan-dangled software makes quoting (and sub-quoting) a little more difficult.  midnight to 3am GMT is 7pm to 10pm my time.  My actual window is a little earlier than that ... and also should include 5am to 6am ... but I can live with that.  Assuming GreenLine fits in his 2 hr window.

El Grillo Wrote:Turn order per random.org starts with greenline. Pick order is therefore:

commodore
ipecac
ruff_hi
greenline

3rd pick.  I wonder what type of pic method we are using.

El Grillo Wrote:The list of available picks is:

Hannibal of America - FIN/CHM Agriculture/Fishing
Frederick of China - PHI/ORG Agriculture/Mining
Peter of Persia - EXP/PHI Agriculture/Hunting
Isabella of Celts - EXP/SPI Hunting/Mysticism
Wang Kon of Byzantine - PRO/FIN Wheel/Mysticism
Gandhi of Holy Rome - PHI/SPI Hunting/Mysticism
Kublai Khan of Egypt - AGG/CRE Agriculture/Wheel
Julius of Mali - IMP/ORG Wheel/Mining
Augustus of France - IND/IMP Agriculture/Wheel

Say what?  There are limited leader / civ combos to select from?  Ok - more research and thinking.

El Grillo Wrote:I'll have starting screenshots and sandboxes in your threads shortly. Feel free to post your pick in this thread when you're ready.

Difficulty: Monarch
Map: Standard (44x28, 646 land tiles, 48% water)
Barbs: On
Units at start: scout and settler
No: Statue of Zeus, war elephants, active espionage, nukes, Great Lighthouse, Apostolic Palace diplo victory, tribal villages, events, tech trading
Diplo: AI diplo
Map description: Geography derived from a tropical full-of-resources Totestra with low sea levels, with a few bridges/choke points added in. Starting areas have been heavily edited to give everyone equal access to opportunities. Stone and marble are not present.

Let me know if something is missing. Also, thanks for allowing me to make the map, it was a good learning experience smile
Woo ... no marble or stone?  Why?  Level the playing field if you want to ... but this slows down nearly all of the National Wonders.  Wait ... speed = quick.  I haven't played a quick game for I don't know how long.  I am going to have to revisit all of my muscle-memory micro.

Click the rightmost button just above the typing area, and it switches to a "view source" mode that works with the quote blocks the same as it always has.

Julius of Mali - IMP/ORG Wheel/Mining [ipecac]

Hmm ... I really enjoy playing SPI as I can abuse the civic swaps.  But that means that I should be involved in lots of civic swaps ... and I am not sure if my playing ability is up to deciphering the differences between the civics.

I know that I am not up to fully leveraging PHI with bulbing.  PRO isn't my style.  My game doesn't normally make much use of AGG ... so ...
  • Hannibal of America - FIN/CHM Agriculture/Fishing
  • Frederick of China - PHI/ORG Agriculture/Mining
  • Peter of Persia - EXP/PHI Agriculture/Hunting [commodore]
  • Isabella of Celts - EXP/SPI Hunting/Mysticism

  • Kublai Khan of Egypt - AGG/CRE Agriculture/Wheel
  • Julius of Mali - IMP/ORG Wheel/Mining [ipecac]
  • Augustus of France - IND/IMP Agriculture/Wheel

Hmmm ... need more thinking on this.

I think you should be able to play at the 5-6AM slot, that translates to 10-11AM GMT, which is when ipecac's window starts.

I ended up going with Augustus of France.  I liked the traits and the starting techs.  I will try and bee-line gunpowder and see what sort of damage I can make with the UU.

And ... we have started ... I settled in place, selected worker and mining.  Scout is sent off exploring and reveals a likely 2nd city (2W, 1S of scout).
