[SPOILERS] Yuris125 tries to win a game of Civ5 before it fades away

Yes, existing followers can flip religions so Adwa almost certainly will very soon. And yeah, he'll be able to use Holy Warriors if he has enough faith to spend.

If the Oracle happens to last long enough to put the policy into Rationalism, that would seem like a good use of the engineer.

Ichabod is getting it next turn - I happened to send the spy into the city where it was being built. I could've used the engineer to try and steal it, but didn't seem to be worth it, and I wasn't even sure how wonder conflicts are resolved in Civ5 - could've ended up being a coin flip, and using a GE for a coinflip to deny a wonder is definitely a waste

Ichabod's strategy right now seems to be outwonder everyone. Which likely is a good way to stay ahead

I think they are resolved in player order so that the one of you that is first in turn order will get in the interturn.

Things are about to get serious

Killed the Crossbow on the jungle tile to recover my Worker. But that's too many Crossbows in sight for my liking

The other unit I lost was a Comp Bow on the tile where my Worker is in Nic's territory - moving it there was a misclick last turn, had to move the Bowman to protect it, losing it wasn't a surprise. Here's to no more misclicks for the rest of the game

Wow, maybe he has been using Holy Warriors after all...!

Nic killed the Bowman I used to protect the Worker, but could not capture the Worker. So the jungle is successfully roaded! (I did 1t of a road at some point earlier)

Now the problem was, I couldn't kill even one Crossbow despite that. My units, either the Bowmen or the Horseman, can only do about 25 damage to a Crossbow on flatland. So I need at least 4 hits. I only had 3, because the Bowman highlighted in red couldn't shoot this turn. I had to move it to that tile last turn to be able to kill Nic's Crossbow and free the Worker - that was the only way I could get a shot with the Trebuchet and with that Bowman. But this turn it ended up out of position

As a result, I actually debated if I should try to protect the Worker again or leave it exposed. I thought letting Nic capture it would not have been the worst idea, as I would've had a lot of shots at any unit he would've used for capture. Eventually realised that he could just kill the Worker, get experience off it, and I would've gained nothing. So decided to try to protect it with the Spearman. Not the end of the world if I lose it, but between fortification bonus and its drill promotion, it has a chance to survive

Note that Nic founded a new city - perhaps this whole attack was just a diversion to let him Settler get by?

Meanwhile at Harar, Nic's Crossbow has been shooting my Bowman for the last few turns

This turn I decided to try to hit back. Unfortunately it was a little too optimistic - I didn't have enough damage to kill the Crossbow, and will likely lose the Swordsman for no value now

Researchwise, I decided to skip Crossbows myself and go for Muskets. It's time to enter Renaissance era and start working on Rationalism - looks like mid-to-late game policies may well come into play this game

I did lose the Swordsman and the Spearman, but not the Worker. Nic didn't do anything aggressive yet, so hopefully I'm not in real danger. Those jungled hills which interfered with my aggression make Nic's attack more difficult as well

Happiness is in the negative because my luxury trade with HAK expired. I sent a renewal proposal, hopefully he accepts. I'm also finishing Courthouse in Hanoi and starting Colosseums in cities which don't have them, so happiness isn't a real issue

I also made a decision I'm really unsure about - I decided to burn my great engineer on the National College. It's a late NC, but I obviously had to focus on military, then on happiness, then on gold, and only now was able to get all Libraries up. Using a GE on a national wonder rather than a world one feels like a waste. But NC on 8 cities costs 244 hammers, that's more expensive than early game world wonders. It would've taken 11 turns to slowbuild it, and it should give me +10 bpt immediately, so +110 beakers just from getting it up earlier, + whatever advantage I can get from speeding up science. As I said, I'm not sure about this decision, but it did feel right

Interesting choice. Compare it to a great scientist: 10 beakers from an engineer is better than 8 from a scientist academy. If there's no particular highly leverageable wonder that you can grab, and there probably won't be with Ichabod so far ahead (did he build Notre Dame?), that use seems reasonable.

I built Notre Dame smile I couldn't think of any useful wonder coming up soon, the alternative was to keep him on ice in case the war becomes so bad that I need to rush the Great Wall. NC seemed much more useful, especially in the situation when the game is far from over and I need to catch up with Ichabod

HAK accepted the lux trade. Happiness is still only at +3. I went through Notre Dame happiness much faster than expected. Need to build missing Colosseums and Circus Maximus - busy doing that. Nic isn't doing anything aggressive right now

HAK declared war on Milan (the cultural city state on the southern end of the map). Not quite sure why, but don't mind - it has a quest for research going, which I'm not going to win, so if HAK ensures no one gets the reward, I'm all for it

Interestingly, my scouting Galley near Ichabod's land found his Settler sailing somewhere. I'm not 100% sure a new city would pay off for Ichabod at this point. But we'll see how it plays out
