Map Script: Island Plates
Game Speed: Normal
Difficulty: Emperor
Civilization & Leader: Gandhi of India
World Size: Standard
Resources: Abundant
Opponents: Six
Rules: Standard
Victory: Any
Version: Second Patch (including Aztecs)

We return again to one of the classic Realms Beyond scenarios for Epic Two. This game asks players to focus on expansion and trade, building your civilization while sharing your resources with the other AI civs. In the past, we've used gems as our trading resources, and there is one diamond resource present at the start in a shout-out to past games. Given that there is still no map editor at present for Civ6, we'll be substituting a slightly different (and larger) resource this time around. smile

Variant rules:

* Sources of Whales must be connected with fishing boats.

* You must sell Whales (for a profit, no gifts!) if a customer is available and willing to buy or trade. This includes selling your last available Whales, leaving none for your own citizens. You must always heed this mandate.

* After reaching the first governments at Political Philosophy civic, you must have one of the policies related to trade routes in effect at all points in time. These policies are as follows: Arsenal of Democracy, Caravanasaries, Collectivation, Ecommerce, Market Economy, Online Communities, Trade Confederation, and Triangular Trade. Having more than one of these policies is fine, but at least must be part of your government.

* You may not trade your own cities to the AI to boost relations.

Custom Scoring:

25 points: Victory (any sort)

5 points: EACH source of Whales you control at game's end. (Must be within your borders and netted.)
5 points: EACH "Customer" for your Whales at game's end.
5 points: EACH source of Whales you control on Turn 150. (Must be within your borders and netted.)

5 points: EACH city of size 25 or higher on Turn 250. To qualify for this scoring category, each city must be self-founded by the player.

3 points: EACH island (of ANY size) under your complete cultural control on Turn 250. (All of the land tiles on the island don't have to be workable by a city, but they must be within your borders. Purchasing tiles to achieve this is fine.)

1 point: EACH active trade route with a unique destination on Turn 200. Each trade route destination city can only count one time towards this scoring goal.

25 points: If you complete the game without ever capturing/razing any cities, and avoid capturing any settlers.

Closing Date: Monday, March 13. Game results must be posted within 48 hours of the game's closing date. Note that this is a scored event, which means NO SPOILERS about your game while playing. Do not post information about your game while it is in play, or afterwards until the finish date. The time to post reports will be on the closing day, where everyone will share the results of their individual games. The Epics are Single Player events, and we take the no spoilers rule seriously. Good luck!

Looks fun!  Question about the patch policy - I don't see a way to turn off patching in Steam version (there are options under Auto-updates but none saying "let me choose when to download patch").

So if one is released during this game's period, we just have to roll with it?  (and live with affecting players differently depending on how far they've gotten in the game).

Question about scoring for various turns  (150,200,250, maybe I missed one) - if victory achieved beforehand, does player use their win turn instead of T250 for those scoring category?
Or can players use "one more turn..." and keep playing past their normal victory condition, to get to T250 for those points?
Or are T250 scoring categories just automatically zeroed in that case?
(Same question for all the other scoring turns).

Well, I am gonna have to find a quiet weekend to play this as to not embarass myself like in the last Epic.

Sounds fun.

Excellent question timmy. For anyone who wins before one of the scoring dates, your victory date will count as the scoring date for that particular category. This is how we've handled these situations in the past, and I think it works better than going past the victory date of a completed game. Good luck!

I don't think this epic would work as intended. Unlike Civ4 AIs Civ5 AIs are always willing to give you something even if they hate you (ie 1 gold). So you can take their cities/raze them and trade with them anyway. If you steal a whale from them you get 10 points, 5 from the whale and 5 from being able to give the whale back to them. I'm sure that there will be at least two AIs on the map that will always get whales (especially with "abundant" resources) if you don't DoW them. That's 20 points right there. I'm sure you would be able to cobble together 6 more points for taking over the map.

I would just ban you DoWing. Doesn't fit the theme anyway.

Maybe you'll just have to play the game and see for yourself then MJW. The scoring goals are the scoring goals - it's up to each player to approach them as they see fit.

Declaration of War. Often "to DoW" is used as a synonym for "to declare war" as well.

Quote:Commercial Hub and Harbor both provide +1 Trade Route capacity, but only the first one applies (used to stack for +2 capacity total).

So.... this patch change was not kind to the Epic 2 game. lol There's nothing we can do about it, so just play around it as best you can and don't worry too much about the scoring. We can always do pre-patch and after-patch results if a lot of players have already finished their games before the patch came out.

One thing in the rules isn’t 100% clear. I have no builders, but have a whale source inside my borders. Does that mean I must send the next building to the whales first? That is my guess.
