So KANGAROO, obviously.

Maybe HEAD "Head out back," but I don't think that's how you would clue those two together.

Outback is also a restaurant, but it's not a CLUB or a SHOP.

POINT could be it. The Outback is the point on Earth where you would find kangaroos.

The Outback is mostly desert; do they have SCORPIONs in Australia?
PENGUINs live in the southern hemisphere, but they're a long way from the Outback.
Outback Steakhouse is a popular restaurant; do they serve ORANGEs or NUTs? Or PUMPKIN pie?

I love me some chain restaurants, but I don't see much connection to the steakhouse. I actually thought Africa just with the general wildness connection.

Yeah, I don't really see a connection to 'out back.' Shops have a back area and you can 'head out back' I guess, but Hair 2 seems like it clues Kangaroo and Head easier. I'm leaning scorpion for a way to clue to of the three animals.

I'm not sure that a more direct clue like Animal 2 wouldn't have been given then.

@pjabrony - does Animal 2 avoid Penguin? Scorpion and Penguin are both non-mammals which live primarily on land, no?

Here's how I believe we stand:

Red: 4 to go. One tic tac toe word outstanding, one outback word outstanding.

Blue: 4 to go. One derrick word outstanding.

If blue can pick up three new words plus the remaining derrick clue, they win. The fact that our spymaster didn't try to finish the grid indicates that he doesn't think they can do that. The last two red clues have been for two words; either Azoth is having trouble making connections or he's waiting for one or more words to be cleared from the board. I think we need to increase our chances of being able to finish things up next turn, and need to make some more guesses.

My favorites at this point: Scorpion (although I'm not even sure they live in Australia), and Point (because tic tac toe is a really fast game, and people usually play multiple games, so they would keep score to determine who wins the most).
