Moon is Blue

WarriorKnight: Cape Canaveral is a spaceport in the south-eastern USA. NASA launches a good proportion of its rockets from there. Including the Apollo program, I believe, hence Moon.

You suggested Screen as a baseball term for Nationals. I guess that might fit reasonably well with the mission control bit of launching rockets.
Other than that, we have:
Boom (as in the noise made when a rocket launches - or possibly if it goes wrong and explodes)
Plane (as in spaceplane)

And this selection, where I can't see any links to Canaveral at all: Tie, Jet, Car, Ghost, Hole, Embassy, Grace, Teacher.

I'm inclined to suggest we try Boom next, unless either of you have any good ideas.

One of NASA's spaceport huh? Interesting...

So we have 2 words to go, and 1 of them is a Nationals word. As I said before, I don't really see any direct links to baseball, and the 3 clue suggests we should focus primarily on this clue instead of Nationals since we've apparently gone down the wrong path. We probably need to get both this turn too, considering the only reason I can think of why Jkaen gave a 1 clue is because his next clue will be crystal clear. So what words do we have?
  • BOOM is probably a good bet.
  • PLANE maybe... Question though, why that and not JET? I'd have thought JET would be a better fit for spaceships then PLANE. (plus jets do sometimes fly over baseball games if the game is special, although I dunno if that's happened for the Nationals recently. Possible link maybe?)
  • I seem to recall that a TEACHER died on a space mission that went wrong some 30 years back or something. Does that have anything to do with Canaveral or am thinking of something completely different and/or confusing fact with fiction?

Don't see any links to the other words, I'm not really keen on SCREEN as a link for either clue at this point.

I think I favor JET first, followed by either BOOM or TEACHER.

I sort of favor Boom and Teacher.

Your memory is correct, the famous would-be first-teacher-in-space fatality from the Challenger mission was launched from Cape Canaveral (the facility is the Kennedy Space Center in case that adds anything to the clue).

The challenges as I see them are Plane vs Jet but seemingly not both, in which case I think I prefer Plane but not strongly. And, finding a baseball word or a nation-type word (Nationals isn't only a team, if like Park were a clue it could have worked, which is why I'm surprised about Embassy) where I lean Boom over Screen.

I grew up only an hour away from the cape, and so for us sonic booms were very closely associated with it, but that's probably a pretty narrow geographic experience...

My dislike for Jet is that space craft use rocket engines rather than jet engines. I might be getting too technical though.
The Teacher link is interesting. It's quite specific knowledge, but this clue might be a bit of a stretch anyway, given that we need to win this round. I'm slightly worried that it feels as though we're a couple of steps away from Canaveral in our reasoning. We might have been clued Challenger to pick up this link.
There are international teacher awards; are there national ones in the US too, does anyone know?

Another silly thought: suppose we were going to have an easy 2-clue to finish, if we'd got all 4 for Nationals. Assuming Moon wasn't the fourth Nationals word, what would our clue have been?
Moon + Jet = Stone.
Moon + Plane = Shuttle?
Moon + Boom = Challenger??
Moon + Teacher = ?

Sorry if this post only serves to muddy the waters further. lol

I'm happy that my TEACHER link was actually correct. However now I'm not so sure it's what we were clued. While it's quite specific knowledge and a good way to link TEACHER with space words, Challenger probably would've been a better clue for that clue if Dave is referring to it specifically (unless the Challenger mission wasn't going to the moon, but I think we probably would've picked MOON up anyway).

I still prefer JET over PLANE. While jet engines are not rocket engines, I think spaceplanes are a far weaker link then jet engines. I do want to keep things moving though, and we all seem willing to go with BOOM so I'm going to give it a shot.

Point to BOOM

It wasn't. But yeah, the link to space is probably good enough to pick up moon.

It's a Car that runs on Jet fuel. A Jet Car. Car. Jet.

Pretty clear. DP, if you concur feel free to wrap this up.
