Caster of Magic Release thread : latest version 6.06!

Troll magicians seem to be slightly overpowered to me. They regenerate. So are perfect unlimited cannon fodder for doom stack.
   
Maybe making them 3 figures would balance that somewhat, since their HP is way too high right now. Maybe 3 figures and less HP even... Not sure just thinking.
As it is now they easily take attacks from 3-4 Jihns in a Sorcery node.

And another question: Does sorcery node have higher dispell aura power than other nodes? I've had it dispell 10 consecutive mass heals in same battle... which is way out of what I expected.

It's the same, so you had bad luck. I will have to test trolls some time, can't make decisions on a race I haven't played at all in the last year.

The retort changes are done!
Please test them and report any observed bug!
The +50% overland casting skill should now work as "normal" casting skill instead of "end of turn" casting skill.

The first game I started on 3.3 I picked astrologer and the old effect seemed to be in play, 33 initial casting skill but written 33(33).  Started again and that effect seemed to be gone, initial casting skill 22(22).  A strange one-time residue from the deleted 3.24, or a haunted computer.  I have a save game but it seems quite fixed now.

This reminds me of the time when I formatted a floppy disk, copied new files onto it and I found the old data afterwards anyway.
The new Astrologer isn't even in the same retort slot as the old one - if you look at the custom wizard screen, Mana Focusing was replaced by the new Astrologer, and old Astrologer is replaced by Spellweaver.

All I can think of is you started the game while the files were still being copied in the background.

(I think I know what happened - you used the old magic.exe where "Astrologer" is the last slot, but it launched the new wizard's exe, replacing the retort with Spellweaver, which has the +50% skill effect now. Only way it can happen, as the old astrologer would have said 33(22) instead.)

hmph.  seems any start of game after initially opening dosbox gives me skill 33(33).  play a turn quit and restart CoM in same dosbox back to 22(22) for all subsequent new games.  It is tempting... to use that 33... if i ever restart my computer it may be gone forever

you might want to take a look seravy.  a game in which skill started 22(22) became 33 when entering first lair and became 33(33) overland after the battle.  alchemy archmage conjurer sage master specialist astrologer 6 nature books

You are right, it's a bug, Spellweaver bonus was applied at random.
Fixed version is up!

In 2.25 description of Artificer retort says "Arance" instead of "Arcane". Sorry if already fixed.

Thank you again for your efforts, looking forward to trying this out. As much as I disagree (strongly) with the balance in some of your decisions, I also appreciate change happening regularly. In fact, I'll probably get bored once you stop changing things around smile

I've updated the change log and changed the format a little, now there's only one spoiler tab.
