Can there be much of a contest for generals, given that their aura ability is identical and costs are the same for all persons of that era?

If I'm reading Sullla's thread correctly, there's only one Classical GG in this game; in any case, not everyone will get a GG in every era; there should be something to compete for there.

I just realized that Sullla will be able to attack Rome with his galleys so Archduke will be fucked.

Does anyone else find it confusing with how placing districts are reported in-game before they are apparently fully built and functional?

Actually the whole district cost mechanics are rather gamey in my mind. The cost shouldn't be escalating the way it happens now and that people plant their districts before building them to lock the costs. I like the way it matters where you place them in relation to their surroundings.

MJW, Archeduke is doomed no matter what. If it is true and he still has a mere 2 units (warriors to top that), he has got no clue what game he is playing in relation to the rest. His UU relies on cheap upgrades of warriors and he doesn't even build those, never mind being attacked next turn. This won't be pretty for him.

Yeah, from what I can tell, the only two players here with any sort of "killer instinct" in an MP environment are Sullla and Yuris, and Yuris has a civ which is only suited for very early warfare.

It's interesting to see how, despite our sense that Sullla has been out-developing the other players, they still are at roughly similar city counts and with similar territory grabs (with the possible exception of Yuris). Granted, Sullla's cities seems to generally be of a larger size, and he is the only one with a sizable military of offensive value.

In my mind, Yuris has thrown away his advantage by his measly 3 unit attack on one city. He will have a mountain to climb to stay competitive.
To me, it is the power of Hansa's (and that added military card slot) that might keep teh in the race if he can quickly get up to speed with his cities. Once, his capital finishes the Hansa, it will be producing a lot of hammers. This might help him. However, I fear that Sullla's take over of Archeduke's land will be insurmountable.

I'm not sure that's fair to teh. Different civs call for different strategies, and being aggressive early on has only a limited window to pay off, while developing your economy can snowball you into a long term advantage.

We seem to have three strategies in this game, all of which sound plausible at first glance:
1. Ancient era rush (Yuris) - sacrifice the early snowball and use your initial military advantage to seriously damage another civ and claim more than your fair share of land. This hasn't worked out for Yuris thanks to how slowly units move, and to teh being on the ball defensively.
2. Classical era attack (Sulla) - use a civ with an early economic advantage to produce an army strong enough to wipe out another civ as soon as possible. This is going to work out well, from the looks of things.
3. Economic advantage (teh) - use a civ with a big mid-game economic advantage. Defend adequately early on, then turn your advantage into a serious army to dominate the world. I think teh has been playing this strategy really well, but it's not going to get its chance to prove itself as Sulla will build up an insurmountable advantage first.

Not that teh would necessarily have won had TheArchduke been in a position to defend against Sulla, but it would have been very interesting to see it play out.

I think teh's chance is if Sulla starts getting pulled in too many directions. I don't know how realistic it is but maybe if Archduke manages to pool too many archers in one city slowing down Sullla long enough for Yuri to attack, preventing Sullla from ever really developing northern Rome, allowing teh to pull ahead economically. But theres a lot of things that have to go right for that to happen...

I think Archduke won't be doing that, look at it, it's 75 turns into the game and he has a mere 2 warriors...he doesn't post and when he did it was all negative and defeatist.
It's sad to see teh's (and maybe Yuris) chances gone by a 4th player who is more a non player...
