Civ 6 PBEM 2 Organizing Thread

You can feel free to send me your civ picks once you've decided on what you want. I am leaning towards a Small map size with the lower setting for water level, as that should give you some room to spread out without creating too much empty lands. I will also need to know the turn order you want to use while playing, since I believe that the order everyone is added into the game is the order in which the save will be passed back and forth. Do any of you know if the PYDT client requires a normal save versus a Worldbuilder save (?)

Keep in mind that there's no map editor for Civ6. I will do my best to get something fair, but on a random map it's inevitably going to be somewhat unequal. You have been warned in advance. smile

Sulla, I will check tonight what sort of file it might require.

Another thing, when playing the game, is one able to look at the game after handing over the turn to the next person? I am asking, because it might be better to be able to play faster and then analyze the situation in more depth while the save it rotated around.
Information in vanilla Civ6 isn't that easily apparent as I would like. Some time might be required to have a closer look without delaying the actual game.

Well turns out it is not that easy.

I got an error message in the end and I think it's due to me having selected 'custom map' but when I want to start the game and I don't load that premade game, there seems to be a mismatch.

Ok, let's go through step by step:

The problem here might be no map type is prescribed, but I got to choose random leaders. Well, the next step was to launch Civ 6 and do what was instructed:

This is the screen where you could load a premade map I reckon. However, I had non and got to choose a certain map type. Anyway, this leads to the next screen

I did as instructed on the PYDT page, but once I tried to upload my file after playing my turn, I got this message:

I tried several ways to remedy this situation. I uploaded before playing my turn, I created a map with the setting but of course, had to chose 4 other leaders than random and hence, got the message again.

I am sorry, I cant even change the game setting to Pangaea map type, it won't let me do that. I guess, we would need to setup another game where you all either chose a certain civ and i try to create a map with those leaders or i specify the map type.

Since I don't have a solution to this, I quickly created a new game with more specific settings.

Could you all join again with a specific leader? Thanks

pw is the same: realms2

PS If you can all join soon, I could try again in the morning before going to work, in about 11 hours smile

Joined the second attempt.

I am also wondering about oledavy's request to send our picks private to Sulla.
Does oledavy mean that we don't reveal our picks in public thread and keep our picks hidden for other players until we see it for ourselves when real deal starts?

BTW, thanks Singaboy for attempting to set up PYDT and testgame, it would be irritating if this happens when we are about to start real game.

Joined new test game. Thanks Singaboy!

So, does this mean you can't launch a game with initial save file?

Are you able to give it a map/game seed in set up?

Is the reason to send civs to Sullla so it doesn't influence what other people pick? For example, I post my pick first and then everybody else can adjust based on my pick or do we want it hidden until we meet in game?

Again donning my speculating hat: the benefit of a 3rd party collecting the picks and then revealing them together is that everyone would then pick in a vacuum without influence of knowing what someone else has picked. Otherwise, the first person to pick has a theoretical disadvantage in allowing their opponents to react to that pick and potentially change their own picks.

There's no reason the picks have to be kept secret until the start of the game; they can typically be revealed once the full list is known.

I should have specified better, but yes. The idea was that we submit our picks in secret before the deadline to Sullla via message and then either reveal them in the organizing thread/titles of our player threads, etc. kjn suggested something like this as a way to circumvent the issue Dreylin has elaborated on here.

With that in mind, does that sound like something you guys would like to do? And does messaging Sullla our picks seem like the best way to go about it to you guys, or would you rather post them in your thread and then have a lurker collate them into the organizing thread once all five are known?

I will join the new test game later, thanks agiin Singaboy for working to get all the technical aspects straightened out.  I'm very glad we're knocking it out now.

I don't mind either method, maybe messaging Sulla might make his map making endeavor bit easier if all of us send him message before 22 April.
