On topic of heroes, when you rescue one, and reject them, do they gain a level?

They don't. They also don't for Summoning spells.

I'm fine with the summoning spells but *pout* about the rescues. Not that their level really matters if I don't want them but *pout* anyway.

Love the work you've been doing and happily rediscovered a classic game I love! Thank you.

However I have a comment on something I didn't like and I hope it's not a feature.
I was playing Lopan at endgame and even though I took all his nodes and cities (one left with no buildings) he kept on throwing huge spells and had to spend 500 ish mana on spell blast each other turn to cancel his timestop (if he succeeded casting this spell, he would actually still beat me..) I couldn't even keep his Great Wasting and Armageddon enchantments down and as soon as I would cast Suppress Magic he would capture it.
So no buildings, cities or nodes for at least 50 turns, but he still keeps playing with nearly unlimited casting power? It's impossible/not fair and personally I like to end the game peacefully once the opponent is practically beaten.

Did he have arch angels or demon lords? Both of those units generate power. So do certain heroes. There might be others as well. If he had enough units that generated power, the spellweaver retort, and was on impossible difficulty, he could still be generating a very large mana income. (Also, if you WERE on impossible difficulty, and not only reached a very late game, but you were winning, I'm hugely interested in a game report)

No arch angels or demon lords and his summoned heroes and units I killed off regularly. Retorts I don't know.
Impossible difficulty and I was about 500 turns away from a castable Spell of Mastery (only had 8 big cities or so myself, razed the enemies').  He could cast timestop in two turns max at any given period of time (only would have one opportunity to spell blast it when seeying it by means of detect magic, next turn would be too late). While for me that would take 4 or 5 turns.

By the way I didn't have the latest patch, but got the lastest release that was up about a month ago.

Oh man you HAVE to give us a game report. Or at least pm me one. Impossible is crazy!

OK, so the next thing for sorting out what us happening is screenshots - of the army/power/spell power graphs, and of the maps of both planes. Also a screenshot of the wizards mirror. Given those I could give you guesses as to what is happening.

Hi Nelphine, I would be happy to, but how do I generate a 'game report'?

Oh, literally just describe what you did, in as much detail as you're comfortable with - there's various threads below with game reports to show you the idea

Most likely reason :
When you banish a wizard, they use alchemy to turn ALL their gold into mana to make sure they don't run out and can pay for Spell of Return as well as maintenance of spells.
This means the wizard on impossible is likely to return with 30000 mana crystals (as they have tens of thousands of gold and Lo Pan is usually an Alchemist on top of it). That takes forever to use up, especially as they keep refilling it by converting gold every time they are banished again. Eventually of course they'll be too low on cities but if you were fast with the attacks they'll still have mana left over for a long time (especially if there are no combats where they can spend it).
50 turns sounds a lot but with a skill of 500, that's 25000 mana total, not impossible if they started with 30.000 mana.
