PBEM 74D problem

Hi everyone,

We're looking for someone to settle a problem in our PBEM. City trading is off, but one of my cities has revolted to Dreylin and he wants to know if he can keep it or if he has to raze it (he has already accepted to disband the free infantry he got with the city).

Not sure I understand the question. Are you saying diplo-screen city trading was banned? And that the city was culture-flipped? I don't see how the one has any bearing on the other. Why should he even have to delete the infantry?

Dreylin said he would delete the infantry anyway (which is fair, given that he didn't do anything to get this infantry).
The city was indeed culture flipped. I conquered it from a third party, and Dreylin had culture in the city already, which meant that when the third party was eliminated the culture was around 5%-95%.

I'm with Ref on this one. My understanding of the purpose of the standard no city-trading rule is to prevent kingmaking, spite gifts, and to prevent extortion-war cycles. None of those apply to culture flips.

Not that I would forbid Dreylin from razing, but that should be his decision based on factors like defensibility, in game relations with you and the third party, and so on.

Edit: Unless y'all have a non-RB standard rule in place, of course, because you've personally decided that flips aren't fun. I glanced at your tech thread and couldn't find one, though.

I think I'm in agreement as well. Culture flip is annoying but mechanically possible to defend against (high culture disparity cram in 6-7 units to greatly reduce revolt chance). If you lost it on the first roll before you really had a chance to do this then that's bad luck but IMO not beyond remedy. Just have to break out the hammer .

Just my suggestion. Good luck whatever you decide amongst yourselves. popcorn
