[no players] CiVI Lurking Part II: Sophomore Slump

I actually thought oledavy's reasoning of attacking ArchDuke to destroy his horseman army before ArchDuke could unlock knights made some sense. Now, whether or not it was the best move is certainly a different matter, but I think his training was at least solid

I think he was just too hasty with the invasion. In his 100 turn round up he acknowledged TheArchduke was falling behind and his army was going to be obsolete. But then he invaded at the peak of TheArchduke's strength with an evenly matched army.

The swordsmen were basically useless. His crossbows couldn't attack much without exposing themselves. They needed to destroy at least 7 units while taking shots from the city and then have enough left to take out the city walls. I think he needed 3-5 more knights for the invasion to have had a chance.

I'm a fan of his priorities, actually. The point isn't to not lose, the point is to win. He's not trying to drag down the #1 guy, he's aiming to NAP and win in 30 turns with his religion. Laser tight focus on the prize.

I have no idea how practical it is though.

I don't think that was OleDavy's reasoning. He was pretty clear about wanting to get Buenos Aires out of the fight (although I agree he didn't think he was attacking into a medieval army, he thought he was attacking into a GG-boosted classical army). I don't think he'd have exposed his troops nearly as much if he just focused on sniping down horsemen. He could have kept feeding Archduke's hammers into Thermopylae culture and made sure that he really was ahead of Archduke when a Renaissance army became available.

Well it looks like Woden won't have to face a war for 30 turns. I feel that the Colosseum will just give him the win...

I now see on the screenshot that his Colosseum will only hit 4 cities which is not that good. Because you cannot be stopped getting it as China you should plant your cities around using the Colosseum as much as possible. He's still in a great position.

I'm loving the OleDavy's rant smile I absolutely understand the reasons even if I don't agree with the reasoning.

But this sentence is pure gold: "because Alhambram can't see what's obvious to anyone who can look at the map and demogs." - when coming from a player who made a fair share of his mistakes - obvious not only from a lurker's perspective, but for other players as well.

That being said I do love his rant, because there's a hell of a lot info there.

Could we se people protecting citystates the same way as their own cities vs religion (hated that mechanic in V like the plague). Davy could close of hatusa with, what 3 units?, that cant be attacked during DoF.

Oh, I meant to say that Firaxis has to know all about GGs stacking because of the Alexander Scenario. The real issue is probably Beach not understanding movement (Persia).

I totally agree with Oledavey on his rant, I think Alhambram not attacking there was a major misplay.
