Woden's Wondrous World of China

Turn 133

Huge disappointment when I opened the save and find...

The stupid barb musket killed my knight. I was sure he would survive, must have been a bad dice roll. Oh well, must move on. I take a pot shot with my crossbow and weaken him until my musket comes to kill him.

Builder at Main Street chops the jungle, adding 47 food and cogs and bringing teh Holy Site from 3 turns to 1. I think I will move the builder to chop teh forest by Small World to hurry the temple (shrine should be done by the time he gets there). Weird thing, the food didn't register in the display, says 22 turns to growth before and after (see next screenshot). hopefully that is a UI issue and not a bug with the food not going to the city. Anyways, I think I want to chop the forest to get the temple going quicker because I see a couple of Russian apostles over by Gorgo and more Pericles' cities converted and if he has 1 or more over by Germany, I think I might be running out of time because...

He also is sending a few missionaries my way. They are probably going to get my western cities and probably 3 or 4 turns to get to PC and a little more to get to the others. So, Holy Site due next turn with ~10 cogs overflow, start shrine (65 cogs) due T136, then start Temple (105 cogs) and with chop could be done on T137. Buy an apostle (400 faith) and missionary (150 faith) on T137 and 2 inquisitors on T138, I should be able to start getting his religion out of my cities. Then I should be able to get an inquisitor every 3 or 4 turns to reduce his influence in my cities. I can remember if inquisitors start at 100 faith or 150 faith. Hopefully I can take the inquisitors and kill his missionaries for a regional effect. I will take the missionary and covert my back line cities first so it will take him more travel time to convert if he wants but I also want to get the religion out of Splash Mountain and convert it to my religion too.

I harvest the stone at Nan Madol and finish the campus, bring my science up to 70.1, almost 10 more than Gorgo....

and Russia (60.2). It will continue to go up once the campus is done at Thunder Canyon for +7 more and the university at Space Mountain for +4. I might put the campus adjacency card in when I switch to Theocracy in 5 turns. That should add another +15 beakers. So in 5 turns I should have a science rate of 96.1 plus any growth I get. I will also build a library and university at Nan Madol after the current builder for +6 more. I might be able to get to Replaceable Parts by the time my friendship with Russia ends. now I just need the gold for upgrades.

Here is the current score for reference...

Russia finishes a district and Gorgo finishes a district and founds a city. Also notice that Russia has 1 more civic than me thanks to his great works. Maybe he will have Civil Engineering when our friendship ends, IDK? Still 5 techs up on Russia and 4 on Gorgo. I should start to pull away now, especially if I run the doubling card.

Turn 134

Not much going on this turn. Holy Site finishes at Main Street and the food from the jungle chop did indeed show up. Started a shrine (due in 2) and will chop the temple. I decided I am going to chop the builder out of Nan Madol in 2 turns and slow build the Library. The builder is more valuable chopping and improving Jungle Cruise and it really shouldn't take too long to get the library done at Nan Madol. Speaking of builders, I have already built 22 builders and have plans for 6 or 7 more in the next 15 turns. Figured it out because the current builders cost 134 cogs and the base is 50 plus 4 more for each builder after. That is a lot of builders.

Russia's missionaries are indeed moving north to Pirates.

Hopefully they take their time and I can kill them with inquisitors, which will reduce his religion in my close cities. Russia finally pulled ahead of me in domestic tourism...

But no worries of him pulling off a cultural victory just quite yet. He still only has 14 tpp versus my 40. It just makes my ability to win via culture harder. May have to wait until seaside resorts and artifacts. I think a cultural victory will be easier than a space victory. Domination is almost out of the question due to the land set up but not completely ruling it out. We will have to see what goes on in the east. I still need to prevent Russia from winning a religious victory. I will say he has shown the potential of religion and the monk economy in this game and will give him mad props if he pulls it off. Actually, I will give him mad props simply for the good job he did keeping up and becoming a contender, I didn't think he had it in him.

Here is the score for reference...

Russia built another district and Gorgo founded another city and grew or grew 6 population or built 2 districts or some combination. She also finished a civic. Still up in tech. I will probably switch out of Astronomy next turn and start printing until my university is finished.

20 turns until friendship ends. I probably will build infrastructure 10 more turns and then switch everybody over to units. I don't want to build too many units to soon because I want to save on maintenance costs. Besides, I need lots of builders and farms. Until I can put neighborhoods in, farms are the only thing to add housing in some of my cities.

Turn 135

Bad news up at The Barnstormer, a barb crossbow showed up. I don't think it will be a problem but I need to get something over to the camp and kill it before more muskets show up. I hitting the barb musket with the crossbow and finish it off with my musket and get...

Not much else happen this turn and I didn't take more any screenshots.

Turn 136

The barb crossbow hit my musket but barely scratch him. I hit the crossbow with my crossbow and finish him off with the musket. Also moved the Tiger towards the camp and reveals...

No new muskets head my way, at least in the areas I can see. My musket did earn a promotion and I will take it next turn.

I chop the builder at Nan Madol and have him put a farm down. This guy is going to go and chop some at Jungle Cruise. I was going to mine the niter but I think I might put a fort on it instead.

Russia put an encampment right next to the niter. If I put a mine there, he will just pillage it right away but if I put a fort, I can put a musket in it and maybe I will put another one next to it with bombard to bring down the encampment when I go to war. I do need 2 forts. Military Engineer will be built after IZ and should not take long with some jungle chops. I have 4 jungles and 1 forest I can chop at Jungle Cruise. That should help speed a few things up.

Shrine finishes at Main Street, start the temple, due in 3. Builder moves to the forest and will chop it next turn.

I want to talk about this forest tile and how sometimes bad luck can turn into a blessing. This forest tile is first ring of It's a Small World and normally you can't swap first ring tiles. But the tile grabber at Main Street grab this tile within a couple of turns before Small World was founded. At the time I was bummed because the settler was in route and I would get the tile anyways when I founded the city. The tile is 2/2, same as the jungle tile, so I never swapped to Small World and now I figure once it is swapped to Small World, Main Street can never get it back. The tile is still part of Main Street and I will chop into the temple. I actually think I might keep it at Main Street in case Small World is captured in the coming war. I would like to say I planned this all along but it is mostly chance and it might be game changing. I can get my temple out 2 turns early, which means an earlier apostle and earlier inquisition, and so on, and  so on. It also means I might get to kill the two Russian missionaries in my lands for a regional reduction in his religion. Russia is getting close to a religious victory. Looks like he needs 1 more of Pericles' cities, 3 more of Gorgo's cities but will get one next turn and has 2 apostles in his land and another missionary on route, and I don't see any converted Germany cities but Aachem does have a few followers, so there is something over there. He has 5 of my cities converted and needs 2 more. I could be converted in under 5 turns if left unchecked. I don't know how close he is to victory but I do think 2 turns will help. Lemons into lemonade.

So next turn I finish the temple and buy an apostle. The following turn (T138) will be big...

Not only can I start the Spanish Chinese Inquisition, but I get Reformed Church and will swap into Theocracy. My University and a +5 campus will finish. A builder will finish at Splash Mountain and a Harbor at Aladdin. I will put the campus adjacency card in and my science rate should skyrocket. One thing I do need to look at is the needed eurekas, it might be better to hold off and run a gold producing card instead if I have to waste science with lack of eurekas. I will be putting the settler card in to produce a few more cities, which will also help fight Russia's religious victory. Exciting times are ahead, too bad there was issues with PYDT last night, if there wasn't, I probably would have already played the next 2 turns.

Turn 137

Exciting times! This game will last 10 more turns or 100 more turns, depending on my next moves.

To start, Aladdin finally grabbed the second desert hill and I had a builder there to mine it right away for a nice 2/4/2 tile...

This should help speed things up a little. Harbor due next turn, then I will start a lighthouse and Colossus.  I chop the forest at Main Street, finishing the temple, and I buy an apostle and start a bank. I will start the inquisition next turn (holy units can't move the turn they are bought) and buy 2 inquisitors and 2 more the turn after. Hopefully in time to save the game. Russia hasn't actually converted anybody yet...

But is getting close. He converted 1 more of Gorgo's cities and needs 2 more(?). Gorgo did find another city this turn, right by Seven Dwarfs and he has another settler on the far side of land, so that should help slow Russia down. My plan for my inquisitors is to use 2 of their 3 charges to remove religion and then have them guard/kill Russia holy units if they enter my land.

Gorgo is catching up in science (until next turn)...

67.9 beakers to my 71.1, but I will add 11 next turn plus 15 more if I run the adjacency card. I still do have 4 more techs then her, so there is that. The score for reference...

Russia now has 2 more civics than me but I will have 2 in the next 2 turns. I really should show the other 2 players scores sometime but they are well below the leaders and don't think they matter too much. Maybe next turn.

Turn 138

I have been anxiously waiting for this turn all week. To start, I get the eureka for Astronomy by finishing the university at Space Mountain and the inspiration for Civil Engineering by finishing the Harbor at Aladdin. I also finish...

And switch to theocracy for cheaper religious units and an additional economic slot instead of a military slot. I switch my policies to...

Natural Philosophy shoots my science rate from 83.1 up to 93.6 bpt. I will have to check that next turn to make sure it is right or did they patch out the city-states as adjacency bonuses? I have noticed that the science rate is not always accurate, especially if you finish or chop something. Curious? Anyways, after playing my turn I started to think about the game and what I want to do in the next 15 to 20 turns and realized I am falling into a major pitfall in Civilization, trying to do everything. I think I am going to be hurting by the time my friendship ends with Russia if I continue to go through turns unfocused. I have been improving my infrastructure and trying to improve my economy. I want to expand and not lose to a Russian religious victory. It is just too much. So, I am going to switch policies again next turn when Medieval Faires completes. I am not going to expand or build settlers, instead, I am going to put a gold producing policy in and I am going to remove Natural Philosophy and put in a faith generating policy until I get Weedy Movement out of my cities. I need gold for upgrades and faith for religious units. Also, I am going to shift everything to military as their current builds end.

Anyways, I start the Chinese Inquisition...

And buy to inquisitors at Main Street. I am going to rename Main Street to something more fitting next turn but won't tell you what until then. I think I am just in time if not a little late...

Pericles is now following Weedy Movement and I am pretty sure Gorgo is close. This will be down to the wire depending how long he has to convert Germany. I currently have enough faith to buy 1 more inquisitor and a missionary next turn and then will need to wait a turn or 2 to get another inquisitor. The good thing now is that Russia will have to start sending Apostles if he wants to convert my cities because missionaries are just to weak to deal with Inquisitors. He is generating a lot of faith but Apostles cost twice as much as Inquisitors, so we should be on equal ground.

Turn 139

I was not happy when I opened the save to find...

Only Germany is current not following Weedy Movement. Luckily I will fix that by the end of the turn. Time to use some herbicide, no, time to use some Roundup! Which brings me to my new temporary name for my capital...

I hope he notices the change. I move the Inquisitor from the holy site to Pirates, currently has 4 population following weedy...

After spraying them with some Roundup...

No more weeds and this is why it is hard to convert someone with a religion. I buy a missionary at Monsanto to convert the city to Norse next turn. This will increase my faith by 8 because of the wonders. I do this at Small World with the other Inquisitor and buy another Inquisitor at Monsanto. He will move down to Nan Madol and Jungle Cruise for a little Roundup action and attack anything that comes that way. This leads to...

Weedy Movements is no longer my majority religion. A few more turns and I should be safe and no longer in threat of a Russia religious victory.

I finish Astronomy and Medieval Faires and get the inspiration for Colonialism. I do a policy swap into...

These bring my gpp up from 13.2 gpp to 24.6 and my faith from 36.7 fpp to 49.3. Next turn I will convert PC and gain +8 fpp for 57.3. Not bad and it should do, considering...

Russia has 89 fpp and 27 converted cities (25 after this turn). That is 54 gpp just from religion! Monk economy is its glory! He has a higher faith rate but if he wants to convert my cities, he will have to send Apostles and they are twice the cost of missionaries, so we should be on equal footing in our little religious war. I should be able to get a missionary or inquisitor every 3 or 4 turns for a little while until they get expensive. Each one is 10 more faith than the last. I should have most of my cities under my religion or at least his religion removed by the time the "friendship" ends.

In the last few turns, I have gotten a few inspirations and since inspirations are part of the domestic tourism, my domestic tourism has jumped...

Wasn't to long ago that I mentioned Russia had passed me in domestic tourism but now I am 11 ahead of him. That 60% inspiration is nice.

Here is a look at the religion in the borderlands....

I just want to point out the double arrow religious pressure I am putting on most of these cities and I have not finished Printing for the increased pressure. Now image me converting my cities and the impact it could have on Russia cities... We will see...

Turn 140

I start by moving my missionary to Pirates to convert it to my religion and gain the additional faith...

This should make it hard to turn back to Weedy Movement. I move an Inquisitor towards JC and will give it a dose of Roundup next turn. I also move another one towards Splash Mountain. I figure 2 or 3 more turns before I am safe from a Russia victory. I jungle chop the builder at Small World (1 turn left) and the IZ at JC, finishing it and start a Military Engineer. That was about it from this turn.

Here is the score for reference...

No much to say about it. Also, here is my lands in startegic view. Everthing just fits...

Turn 141

I have been dreading opening these last few turns, expecting a Russia victory. I shoudl be good after T142 but for now I worry. To start off, I remove a few Weeds at Jungle Cruise and Splash Mountain and both cities convert to my religion. I move the missionary at Pirates down to Nan Madol. I will use him and the Inquisitor at JC to convert Nan Madol. Here is what the religion in the region looks like...

I now have 6 cities under my religion and will convert The Barnstormer and Nan Madol next turn. I should be safe after that. I buy a missionary at Monsanto to spread some religion in the east. I will buy one more Inquisitor before I start saving for an apostle to get my own monk economy going.

Looking at Gorgo's land and see she is preparing for something...

Maybe going after Pericles now that she has her own General or maybe shift to finish off Germany. I money is on Pericles because he is busy with Germany.

A quick look at the Great People situation...

I shoudl have the next Scientist in about 8-9 turns and Gorgo must have run a project and will get the merchant next turn.

Here is the score for reference...

I would elaborate more but I have a turn to play. Hope Russia didn't pull anything and win the game. Fingers crossed!

Turn 142

I think I built my temple just in time, since...

Russia has everybody converted except me! Well, let see if we can scare him off or test his resolve...

Thought I took a screenie with the after but no. My Inquisitor took about half his health. If he is still around next turn, I will kill him. Time to ensure no Russia religious victory...

Sprayed the city with some Roundup and tehy spread the one true religion, bringing teh number of followers to 5...

Not much else going on this turn. I did check Gorgo's science rate...

70.7 bpt to my 89.2 bpt. Nice! Should be able to increase my lead in tech!

Turn 143

Not much going on this turn. I chop into the Engineer and start a builder. Moved a few units. Here is the score for reference...

I have played 2 more turns but will have to write those up in the morning.

Thank you for the reports!

I thin you accidentally posted Gorgos science twice instead of the score overview.
