downloading kyrub's patch (GOG/Mac)

And you can see the Save Game files? They're not in a subdirectory?

I promise I'm not trying to be obtuse:

Maybe you have Master of Orion installed twice? The save games you open and the folder you're demonstrating could be coming from different places.

That's weird! Maybe save to slot 1 and then search SAVE1.GAM by DATE MODIFIED? I can't think what else to tell you. As far as I know GOG doesn't change the file structure in any way. I'll poke around.

Ianus, are you forced to show package contents on the .boxer file? That's where I've been looking but I suspect my saves are in a different castle. Mostly because I've got all 6 but spotlight cant find them

I ask because I'd like to play in the imperia...

Not that I am aware of. I don't have the GOG version installed on my Mac, but I do on my old XP PC and the file structure there is identical to a self install. I installed my own version of DOSBox on my Mac and set it up to run my own Orion directory. If you can't get GOG to work in time for the Imperium I suggest setting it up yourself. You can get Orion from Abandonware or someplace similar for free and DOSBox is easy to configure.
Hope this helps!

Sounds quite weird.  Just throwing thoughts at the wall to see if any of them stick:

Have you tried e.g. just downloading the Imperium 42 save, copying it into that directory, and trying to load the sixth savegame?  The name of the save in your game window would still show as [whatever you named your sixth save game before] but if the directory were working normally, it would still load the Imperium starting save.  Otherwise ... have you tried looking in the directory to which you unzipped kyrub's patch (before copying the files to your virtual C drive)?  No idea why the saves would be there, but then I have no idea why it's behaving the way it is!

I don't think Abandonware is a thing anymore(?) - at least not for games licensed for sale at places like GOG.  But I can't think of any way the GOG version would do anything weird with the save games that a regular install wouldn't do.  I think the GOG version comes with Dosbox pre-configured and pre-installed; if so, do you know if Dosbox running natively in the Mac environment, or running under a Windows emulator?  If the latter, is it possible the emulator deals with the save files strangely?

Saw this on the web: it looks like save games are located in the library application, not in the virtual C drive associated with the application.

I'll try that this evening.

My saga continues: there, of course, is no Boxer in the Application Support Library -- at least, not via Finder.... I guess I shall not play.

Argh! I'm sorry to hear that....

On the other hand: I did some checking online and it looks like Ianus was correct (and I was mistaken) - there are places that offer MoO as abandonware, for what it's worth....
