[SPOILERS] Woden's Desfiles de Carnaval do Brasil!

Looks like we will have a world builder for map development. Good and maybe Bad.

Good: The map should be balanced.
Maybe Bad (possible): I don't know if Sullla will consider Brazil's propensity to jungle starts when setting starting locations. A lot of Brazil's ability is dependent on jungle.

Of coarse, I still rolled a bunch of maps without a heavy jungle start and still choose them. I don't know how harmful to not get a heavy jungle start will be and I guess I can always go looking for it and should run a test game. I guess we will see what the map looks like when the game starts and I still am sticking with Brazil, regardless and will roll the dice.

I did PM Sullla my selection as Brazil.

Let's discuss the board:

All the civilizations with some sort of naval ability! This should be fun.

Japper007: Norway. I don't know what to expect from him as he is new. Norway is a good water civ and I expect early aggression. I will probably try and settle my capital away from the coast, if I can. The longboat is a good raiding ship. Hope he is not my neighbor. He my go for a religion given his unique building, but not sure if it will be an early push.

CFCJesterFool: Spain. A little surprised at this pick. I expect him to go early religion and war around muskets with his unique unit. He might go for a faith economy with his Mission tile improvement. They provide +2 faith and addition +2 if on a different continent and can provide +1 science if next to a campus (+2 at culture heritage). His trade routes will help him if he settles another island on another continent (added food and production).

Singaboy: Germany. This will be his second time playing as Germany. He should do nice with the abundant resources and his Hansas. I did have a rough time with his warring neighbors in PBEM2 and I will probably add more when i can read his thread. He was able to defend his land and bounce back fairly well. I expect him to be a tough competitor.

TheArchduke: England. In PBEM1, TheArchduke got ran over by Sullla. In PBEM2, I think he focused on too much warring and fell behind. Maybe he can find a good middle ground this go around. He does have one of the better civs on water maps. I expect a strong showing this go around for him but do think he will war early and if he can't make ground on his warring, he will fall behind again.

oledavy: Japan. He is a good builder but does like to war. I think he either attack or though about attack everyone in PBEM2. I was the only person he didn't attack but I did see his army approaching my lands. He does like to try and bring people into wars. I don't think I will try and plan any with him this go around. No need to get burnt twice. Japan is a good builder civ with its cheap districts. I expect him to go for an early-ish religion with half price Holy Sites. I don't know how much he will prioritize them but am sure he will build 1 or 2.

Me (Woden): Brazil. Brazil could be unbelievably good if I get a jungle heavy start with a few bananas but like I said it will depend on how much Sullla modifies the map.  I plan on going for an early religion and develop a strong culture rate. I want the religion to help build out my cities and the strong culture to get to Nationalism as soon as possible for Minas Geraes, a replacement to battleships. I can get them an era sooner and they are resourceless. If I can get to them, I can go on the offensive and destroy my neighbor. I shall run the seas in the modern era. I will also make sure my defenses are suitable at all times and not forgo Civil Engineering this time around. We will have a diplomacy thread but I think for the most part I will be fairly reserved in using it. Better to not let them know what i am thinking.

Jungle adjacency for Theater Squares is really great. Theater Squares feel like very poor early builds, because it's very hard to get good adjacency early on, and they end up feeling like very poor investments. But if you get some good adjacency bonus that justify building them early, your Theater Squares will start working on the great preson points, and soon they will amount to a great advantage.

By the way, Street Carnival projects also give Great Merchant points (not only GE, GA, GW, GMu), if the internet is to be believed.

I probably will build a few Theater Districts, especially if I have jungle at the start. I agree that in the beginning they really are not worth the effort unless you get a good adjacency bonus but I want to build the cultural side to rush to Nationalism. I was kind of disappointed that I didn't get any out in PBEM2 until late in the game. I am think 2nd or at least third district in most cities.

I am going to have to get out those Carnivals and their projects. Do you know if the GP points the same as pother projects? I wonder if they are the same quantity for each or spread out among the good (e.g. if it is 25 points, is it 25 points for each or 5 points each for 25 points total). I will definitely have to test that.

Anyways, I will post some of my game strategy once I see my start, probably spread it out over the first few turns as I see the lay of the land.  I think the beginning moves will really depend on if the start is heavy jungle or not. I will say that I am not going to try anything funky, like building all the early wonders in PBEM2. This will be a start up try and win game.

Looking for suggestions on a theme for this game. I am think something festive to go with the Carnival. Any suggestions?

Me being a Hydrologic Engineer, I could do the major tributaries in the Amazon Basin.

City names:

Máspoli
González
Tejera
Gambetta
Varela
Andrade
Pérez
Míguez
Morán
Schiaffino

Capital: Ghiggia

Serious and decidedly more festive suggestion: holidays around the world. Passover (or Yom Kippur), Tet, Lucia, Diwali...

Also, despite first impressions wink , I'll be quietly rooting for you two, not least for having chosen an interesting civ, but can't actually contribute, since I don't play Civ6.

@Coeurva: I think holidays and festivals around the world is an awesome suggestion! Thanks!

The capital has to be Carnival

Then we can go (in no particular order):

St. Patrick's Day
Tet
St. Lucia's Day
Diwali
Lupercalia
Yom Kuppur
Inti Raymi
May Day
Rosh Hashanah
Dia de los muertos
Cinco de Mayo
Bodhi Day
Ramadan
Yule
Imbolc
Nowruz
Festivus
International Talk Like a Pirate Day

Add a few festival days like:
Oktoberfest
Chinese New Year
Yi Peng Lantern Festival
La Tomatina
Holi

I am open for more suggestions on holidays around the world.

@Trasson: Definitely have to have International Talk Like a Pirate Day (if it fits)

Turn 1: A New Day in a new game!

I open the save and see my stating location...

I move the warrior south to the deer tile to see if the coast is down there or at least see where the river goes and reveal...

I took a while trying to figure out the best location, do I settle in place or move the settler east 1 tile. I should state that I didn't see the eastern most 2 tiles. I figured I would settle in place for a couple of reasons: 1. I could work that nice 2/3 deer tile right away; 2. didn't want to waste a hill (even though it would give an extra cog sitting on it, but the deer makes up for it) or a forest chop; 3. this location brings in the 1/4 deer tile to the west. This is an interesting start, you can see lots of jungle near the starting city, so that is good. Hopefully there is a little more so I can get a +4 or +5 district. So far, I could get a +3 campus on the tile east of the capital if I put the CH on the other 1st ring river tile. Then I could get a +3 gold Harbor. We will have to see what is east of the city and see if that jungle extends farther.

Here are the city tiles...

Working the 2/3 deer tile but will probably switch to the wines next turn for faster growth. The city will grab the horse and fish next, which one IDK, probably the horse since it is higher yield. For builds, I started a Slinger and probably will go Settler next to get out an early 2nd City, maybe Builder depending on what I find. I am going to send the warrior east to see where that river goes and if there is a viable city location in that direction.

Anyways, I will post a strategy later today as I just woke and am off to work.
