Waiting on the map for my next post. Interesting choice of nations. Shame that Singaboy could not resist Germany again.

Coming back from cheese, it seems we are still without a map so I rolled a coupled of starts to get a feel for island plates (small, new, abundant, low sea level.)
The results... vary. Going with random civs I got Small island Huge island Tiny, I will probably play this what a funny start. To downright strange, I know Russia is biased, but this seems wrong. So expect the unexpected.
at your test maps the map-rolling scripts have some pretty glaring issues. The worst start I saw was an island the size of your tiny island above, but totally tundra except for one measly plains tile
Have you played the first turn yet? I just posted in the organizing thread that I found 3 ocean tiles adjacent to a small island I added. I am correcting that now and generating a new starting save for you. Hopefully you see this in time.
Welcome all, this is getting on its way.
Disclaimer: Expect frequent wrong analysis, misplays and general fuckuppery on my part, I do hope you enjoy the ride. Anyway, off we go: We play as Victoria, Queen of England. So what makes or break Victoria? Harbours. The Royal Naval Dockyard description is misleading. You need to open the civpedia for what it makes it great, not unlike the Hansa. It gives +1 movement to ships, 2 Great Admiral points, not 1! and is only half price to build (30cogs), a very cheap price. Needless to say, a beeline to this district, especially given the gold and trade route bonus will be our first item on the agenda. So this is my start. Thanks to abundant ressources, not too shabby. The river and no apparent better settling place which this time around is a better easier to see then PBEM #2, makes a SIP very likely. Even the districts nearly plan themselves out. And with coasts in the north, east and west, we are going with the farmers opening. A builder, with designs on building 2 quarries and then a farm or pasture however the god of tile picking wills it. So initial plan will be worker->settler (or scout/slinger depending how vast this island (or penninsula) really is. With out second city we will claim another sea ressource and boost celestial navigation and early empire, get 2 harbours and then double down to 4 cities. From next turn onwards I will try to keep better track of the other players and try to bookkeep score and power. A small thank you for the mapmaker letting my England be on the coast and not offering me any choice but to SIP. Let the crucification in the lurker thread begin. Should I have gone for a scout? Move inland? Who knows? Find out in the lurker thread!
Good luck with the game, I am looking forward to your reporting and how you will fare this game.
Without spoiling anything I can confirm that you are not Alhambrams neighbor this time. |
