Hardly a silly question
It adds +1 Culture to pastures.

Interesting - I currently see like 3 pasturable tiles? Am I missing something, is it good enough anyway, or is it just the least bad option?

Getting these +3 culture is equal to the cultural value of 10 population and will increase the culture rate of Oledavy by more than 200%.
It is just a good pick, although your cultural research might skyrocket beyond your capability to get the inspirations.

Kaiser is quite correct, 3 Culture this early would be pretty huge. I'm not set on it quite yet though, but strongly leaning in that direction.
Turn 6
La Venta's warrior moved where I wanted to go, so I had to move northwest instead of west. I found some mercury, but it looks like there is tundra just beyond my sight. Ganymede is size 2 right now.
I think the island doesn't extends much farther south, but still, next turn I'll have to decide.
Do I send the warrior south, wasting a couple turns defogging hexes I already have explored, but giving me a greater possibility of finding another player/city-state. Or, do I just keep sending him north into the tundra, for a chance of finding a natural wonder sooner.
I'll have to confront the same dilemma when I produce the slinger in a couple turns. I think there is nothing left to be found to the south, but if I'm wrong I'll be kicking myself...

Turn 7
Quiet turn. Moving my warrior south. Abroad, not much going on but people growing to size 2. If people are finding city-states, they're not cultural or scientific. I also definitely have the only religious CS so far. I'm beginning to sense the mapmaker's hand at work here, but it's impossible to say this early.
After flipping around on me a lot though, Ganymede has decided to expand to the correct tile.
Currently I'm leaning towards sending the slinger north to explore the tundra, but otherwise keeping him around the capital for defense. After this build finishes, I'm going straight into a builder. It looks like there is relatively little chance I'm sharing this island with someone, so I should be good to simply farm and keep a skeleton early game military for defense.

Completed a slinger, Ganymede grabbed the horses. The warrior found pearls south of La Venta, making the city-state slightly more valuable. I simply cannot fathom why the AI didn't found 1 farther east
Need a name for this island at some point, but I'll hold off on that until I confirm that I am indeed alone. I think the river for Ganymede is a manual edit, and I suspect La Venta may be as well, but having no experience playing on edited Civ6 maps, it's difficult for me to discern at this point what is the mapmaker's hand and what is the game's map generator.

Continued exploring. Singaboy grew to size 3 I believe.
I remembered Venetian Arsenal is a thing this morning....that wonder is probably absurdly broken on this map.

It looks like the sea to my north might actually be a small inland sea. My slinger will figure it out one way or another soon. My warrior is defogging the area to the southeast. Still no barbs.
I figured out how to get the Foreign Trade Inspiration. I'm going to research sailing and embark one of my builders to get the Inspiration.
The big question now is if I can find a natural wonder for astrology. Odds of me finding one are looking slimmer and slimmer, but it's far from impossible yet.

On the topic of your naming scheme, has anyone seen the TV series(it's on netflix here)? I want to pick up the book when I get a chance, I'm curious how closely they follow each other.

Currently watching it, just finished season 1.
So far, the show follows the book as far as major plot elements are concerned. It does, however, make some changes to characters' relationships with each other, and notably introduces Avasarala as a POV character in Season 1 when she is not a POV character in the books until Caliban's War.
