[NO PLAYERS] WW err CIV6 Game 4

(September 10th, 2017, 16:56)Dreylin Wrote: but Japper's view of the battlefield is still limited (is he not wondering where the GG is?) and overly optimistic. Looks like Midgaard will fall, but the progress after that may not be good.

Also that Warrior purchase means he won't have upgrade cash for quite a while...

Frustrating as a lurker. It seemed to me that he and Davy together had a navy of at least four ships, all of which were stronger than Singaboy's ships due to civ-specific bonuses. It seemed to me that could have been enough to stop Singaboy on the cheap...but only if they intercepted Singaboy's army while sailing. It's a bit late now to see what a well-run navy can do to an amphibious assault.

Well, I am bit surprised that Japper didn't judge the threat from Singaboy well. You can check domination score: Singaboy 450 and Japper 150, on top of that Singaboy got Great General.
And also Japper knows that Singaboy is his very close neighbor and got high domination score, so theoretically he could have positioned a unit at very south east corner of his island to warn himself for possible incoming invasion. Now he knew that Singaboy were coming, but was caught with surprise by size of Singaboy's invasion army. ( I know that a lurker can see Singaboy's army moving in direction of Japper waaay earlier than Japper himself, but still....).

Against attack from army with Great General, defender likely need to be on same strength as attacker to not fold as paper. Without GG, defender can be on 66% of attacker's strength and don't fold.
And Japper is currently at 33% of Singaboy's strength now and Singaboy also got GG right now, really not good for Japper. His only saving grace is that oledavy is his sugar-daddy right now: gifting iron, horse and possibly gold for upgrading warrior into swordsman since Japper just burned 160 gold for a warrior.

It is worth to note that two players who didn't participate in PBEM 2, were running a skeleton army (just warrior, 3 slingers/archers and 2 longboats in case of Japper) and feeling relative secure until suddenly hit hard by others. Maybe it is lack of experience of playing civilization 6 multiplayer at realmsbeyond, I am sure that they shall be more vigilant next time that they participate new PBEM.

Question: does a GG powered horseman kill an archer from full health in one attack? If the answer is yes, Japper is in a lot of trouble.  ipecac

Strength difference in that situation is 25 (strength 15 against strength 40) which yields a damage range of 65-98. Not enough for a one-shot kill but darn close to it. Japper is really screwed here and not just at his border city. Singaboy has enough gold on hand to upgrade two archers into crossbows after taking Midgard, and then he'll be pushing on Japper's capital with 4-5 horses and 2 crossbows, with a Great General boosting them. Against someone with 1/3 his military strength, no horses, and no swords... who just burned all his gold cash-rushing a warrior.

I think this war is already over.

one of the first things a civ 6 RB mod has to change is the settler cost. The nerf to it made early game way too swingy based on early aggression towards neighbors/city states

Looks like Singa will hit the big boats 4 turns before England can even start upgrading, might not be anything left on the waters. Or have I miscounted the length of the NAP. Dave might be a turn late, but Im guessing once England is gone so is the game.

Well, both PBEM 3 and 4 had the problem of having the rules change happen during the game, so some players' already planned strategies worked better/worse than antecipated.

But while I dislike the settler cost increase, because it makes the game slower, I don't think it makes the game swingy by itself. Everyone can be aggressive towards city states (actually, a mod change could make City States a bit more powerful in the beggining of the game, making them less vulnerable - City States could start with walls, for example), and it's expected from the players to keep a decent military around from the get go to deter invasions, as early city captures are very possible in Civ 6. In this case, I'd say the players that decide to expand peacefully are making a choice, and their choice is their responsibility, not the game's.

Anyway, I was very, very wrong about Singaboy's attack. I expected archers to fare well against horsemen, but that's not true at all. GG-powered XBows are also very powerful. Well played, Singaboy.

Now I just need to get the Great Zimbabwe going at Beija-Flor for cash for upgrades. But first I need to build a few chariots before I finish Stirrups because I will not get the production card for Knights until after I get Nationalism.

I think oledavy has Woden's play nailed.

man, its true what I read about that venetian arsenal, prcaticaly you get double naval units?Man just insane. How they could think thats right?

There is a civ which gets double mounted units. Don't even need to build anything, you just get two for one. (It's banned in all games ofc).
