The Backstabbers' Table - PBEM 4 Diplomacy Thread

Kind of ironic since I was reminded of using the trade screen for communication by you sending horses for horses to Sullla in PBEM1.

@Diplo Thread
I am actually enjoying the diplo thread and am really interested in seeing how it works out in the coming turns. I am also really enjoying the map too. Good job Cornflakes!goodjob

@Archduke, thank you for the iron. I sent you cotton in return. Let me know if you need a second iron when I get my own iron back here in a few turns.

I would be happy to accept your offer for a defensive pact starting on t120, but I feel before I let you walk into it, I should appraise you of the battle front between Singaboy and myself, as he very well may be attempting to assault one of my islands over the next few turns.

Singaboy split his army approximately in half, sending the something like 2 horseman plus I presume a crossbow and his battering ram north to take Jpper007's remaining holdings (Jpper007 can comment on this). The other half (2 horsemen, 2 crossbows, and his great general), he sent west to take Jpper007's westernmost city, right across the channel from one of my outlying islands.

My navy was unable to intercept a caravel of his before it made it to the city and aided in its capture, but up to this point, my two nearby caravels had been bottling this single caravel up. However, this turn he brought a second caravel around the headland, and with ground-based crossbow support, my navy has been forced to withdraw from the immediate coastal area.

He now stands poised to begin transporting his army across the narrow channel to my the island I've been provisionally calling Saturn. While I am moderately confident in my ability to defend (with Defender of the Faith and now swords on the ground), Singaboy may choose to embark and begin a land battle between us on the island that may not be resolved by t120.

As an aside, I presume you already know this, but I hope you are gunning for Frigates and Press Gangs as fast as you can. Every turn Singaboy has both before you and I is a turn of great danger.

@Oledavy

I left builder mode quite a while ago. My only worries are that Woden´s NAP lulls him back into builder mode whilst the world is gearing up.

My offer for a DP from turn 120 on stands.

Are you sure you have time for your project atm?

If you're referring to what I think you're referring to, yes.

And if it wasn't already obvious, I accept.

Woden,

Germany is appealing to Brazil to stem the tide against Japan and England. In an open war declaration against Germany (from T120 together with a defensive pact), both are trying to pull you in as well. However, if you think about it, both are real juggernauts and their navy might crush Germany with Brazil being the supper treat after they have eaten Germany for dinner.
Do you wish to be their ally just to help them have an easier time against Germany (with no other fronts to worry about), while they take the big share of the pie or do you rather have a better balance of power forming an alliance with Germany against this aggression (Germany and Brazil are not enjoying the naval superiority that Japan and England have).

I am aware of your defensive pact with Archduke until T130. However, as we agreed earlier, if Germany doesn't attack England and merely defends its Islands, Brazil will remain neutral. I propose to have a military alliance from T130 onward to rid the world of those two. It will be a long and hard struggle for both of us. However, if we both leave the two juggernauts unchecked, they will take apart first Germany and then Brazil. To me, the writing is on the wall and Brazil can now make the call to a more balanced fight.

PS: To make my case even stronger, Archduke and oledavy are openly talking about a 'project', which can only mean the Venetian Arsenal. It is very powerful and if oledavy gets that, he will terrorize both of us with his navy.

@Singaboy,
I do share your concerns, as I am a mere minor power, and you give me a lot to think about but I am not ready to commit to one side or the other at this point. I will state that I will remain neutral if England attacks you before our NAP runs out. I will think long and hard on your offer and let you know by T130 where I stand.

Thanks for the direct answer, Woden.

Sometimes, it doesn't pay to sit on the fence too long, remember PBEM2? However, I am fine with you taking time to think about my offer. Remember there is potentially another dark horse in the race. It might not be only 2 vs 2 but 3 vs 2. Who knows.

By the way, Singaboy will finish his conquest of the Vikings this turn.

That's essentially seven free cities in ~25 turns. I don't think he lost a single unit over the course of the invasion.

Well he lost two Galleys but yeah, his army is practically untouched...
