Ugh, I hate this kind of reasoning.  Why carry a grudge from one game to another?  Do you *want* to have a real life enemy?

(also, I don't quite see what OleDavy actually did in PBEM 2 to anger Woden, other than fail to rescue him from Alhambram.  But that's a much smaller point)

Quote:3. Remain neutral for the time being. I am sure this will piss everybody off but they will be fight among themselves and will let the winner(s) in a much better shape and may come after me before I can get to my sweet spot.

Now you may be thinking the choice is obvious, take out the leader. Why would I even consider letting someone get into winning position. Well, I have 10 civic until I finish Nationalism and two of them are near completion.  Why is Nationalism so important? That is when I can build Minas Geeraes and I am hoping nobody has looked into Brazil closely or understands how OP they are.

Figates are 55/45 ranged/melee strength; Privateers are 50/40 strength, Ironclads are 60 strength. Minas Geeraes are 80/70 strength (90/80 with corps, available at Nationalism) plus have a range of 3 and don't get a reduction from walls.  In addition, it is an industrial unit and gets the Press Gangs bonus. Is a 20 to 35 strength difference enough to 1 shot a unit? IDK. But definitely a 2 shot kill. I figure if I have 6 Minus Geeraes and 2 Corps Minus Geeraes, I can go on a rampage. I will bring my GG  powered knights along to take cities. They should do well with Minus Geeras support. I should hit my sweet spot in about 50 turns, then we will see where this game goes and my chances of winning. I want to stay in the shadows as much as possible and have others fight among themselves while I slowly build to my goal.

The next available ships to everybody are Battleships (at Steel) and subs (at Electricity) and they don't even match their power. Infantry and Calvary, and Field Cannons aren't even strong enough. Brazil probably has the most OP unit on this type of map. I figure I have a good 20 to 30 turns to wipe out who I want before they can field a unit close to their strength. I am not to worried about a bigger civilization with more units when I can 1 or 2 hit kill units, just more experience. Part of me was thinking just to attack everybody's capital on the same turn and end the game quickly but I don't know if that is possible or if I could have the units to do it. I would be dead quickly if it didn't work.

My plan, as of today, is to join England and Japan in war aganist Germany to slow everybody down but once I get Minas Geeraes who knows where I will go.  I am think about taking out the strongest power but we will see. Interesting times ahead. I will wait until after T120 to let Germany know that I have no interest in his offer of an alliance. I just think he will become too powerful if he is left to ingest another civilization. Looks like it will be England, Japan and Brazil versus Germany and Spain in the first world war. Although I think I have made my decision, I do want to sleep on it. Sometimes I think I want to go one way and then inspiration hits me and go in the other direction. Although that might happen, I think I could benefit from either side.

I think this has half a chance of working...but not the way he's negotiating.  Right now he's doing a good job of making both sides mad at him, and hence is target #2 on everyone's list.  I don't see him getting a chance to build '6 Minus Geeraes and 2 Corps Minus Geeraes'. Someone will hit him first, while he's trying to get by without building a military at all.

Agreed on Singaboy being an immense danger btw.

Well, I wonder what Japper can pull out high hat?
Well, Japper might have some tricks upon his sleeve and I am interested to see what it is. But just at this moment I just can't see how he shall survive this invasion.
Yeh that one was just a bold-faced bluff, full-stop. Never underestimate the effect of making a remark at a third party so the one the one the deception is actually meant for buys it way better when he "overhears" it. I had to bluff cause I had no other option, no solution was going to be timely. If I could make Singaboy even hesitate a little bit through saying that, the deception was worth it...

I hope Singaboy just eats it for the salt it would cause.

Public diplo seems to have solved the massive time sink but there still could be drama.

Oh man, the joys of Full(er) Diplomacy.

Players alwas expect it to make the game better, but I've only ever seen it make the game worse by spreading the hurt around.

I think the majority format on RB where the grudges and drama are bottled up in each players thread, while there's no way to communicate is better at taking the sting out of the harder MP moments. Once the game is over most people have cooled off enough for there to be no issues.

As much as I like conflict in the games, I'd hate there to be bad feelings between the players.

I honestly don't get why the Diplo thread devolved into salt, neither Singaboy nor Oledavy has any reason to be this pissy. Maybe the issue is more one of the players involved rather than purely diplo? After all, I don't bear any grudge towards Singaboy even though he actively tried to manipulate me with his diplomacy

In my experience people often overestimate their opponents strength if they don't have the full picture. They tend to imagine all sorts of worst case scenarios without realising you can't do everything. So Dave is probably overvaluing Singaboy a bit, while Singaboy is probably overvaluing Dave a bit and combined that makes for quite a big gap in pictures they're portraying in the diplo thread. If they're feeling that the other is consistently telling blatant lies I can see it resulting in some bad blood.

Singaboy is almost comically dire.

I don't understand Singaboy's recent play either. I thought that he would hold his navy in reserve for the moment and use them to counterattack, hitting TheArchduke whenever the English units were overstretched. Singaboy is on the defensive and has line-of-sight plus defender's advantage. Instead he split his naval units into two parts and then left them sitting out in open waters right next to TheArchduke's fleet, apparently just asking for them to be grouped up on and sank:

I mean, what's going on in this picture? Singaboy can see what he's up against. Why would you leave your ships hung out there to dry like that? Is this some weird attempt to prove his doom-and-gloom in the public thread correct? And now he's going on a suicide mission just to hurt oledavy rather than simply defending his huge empire and relying on his production edge for defense. Color me confused at all of this.
