The Backstabbers' Table - PBEM 4 Diplomacy Thread

From where I stand, the norwegian population (not that there any districts mind you) makes me nearly catch up to Oledavy´s rates (those japanese districts.. wow).

In any case, I think my position is as good and as bad as Singaboys was about 20 turns before (minus the war with Oledavy).

@Singaboy: You neither concentrated your navy, nor used it defensively. Also diplomatically ceding part of Norway to Oledavy would have been smarter. I honestly expected a rerun of PBEM #2 where my double GG army grinded to a halt against your higher in tech defensive terrain. It seems sea maps are of a whole different ballgame.

@All: Honestly, why is there noone else prioritising harbours on a sea map? They are as good as commercial districts. With Singaboy and the Hansa bonus I get, but everyone else?

Also I for one I enjoy taunting, trashtalking, intriguing in a diplomacy thread. I want to play with human beings not human intelligence AIs in a MP. I agree that private conversations are a time intensive nightmare though.

A small part why I accepted your offer. If you and I went to war right now, the only one to benefit would be oledavy, as he would hit your backside and take your cities while we fight it out. He still has the highest science rate.

The reason why he wouldn't do this is in your rationale.

That's why our alliance was a good idea, military pressure from both sides meant he couldn't aggressively push against one of us, or Singaboy. Also, since we're neighbors, it would have easy to alternatively send naval aid to each other in the event of an attack  huh

You do realize he has the cities and population of both of us COMBINED, right?

I am getting good value out of my CH right now and not everybody has half price harbors that add a trade route. They really should add a Maritime City-State.

I also am enjoying this thread, it adds a new dynamic to the game.

@Sinagboy,
You can't expect ancient walls to defend against a Renaissance unit, 50 health is nothing, learned that in PBEM2.

As for the deal you sent, I will have to see it. I need a little money for a few upgrades and I just put in Professional Army for upgrades and will be swapping it out next turn. I can limit it to a few upgrades and send you what is left.  If it is not what you need, give me a few turns.

I'll supply some information in good faith.

You have coal east of Salgueiro on the peninsula. You have another coal 3 east of Beija Flor. You may want to pre-mine them.

You can do this for me in the interim, and I ask this not in exchange for the above information but as a way of helping me stay in this. It's especially critical in helping me determine fleet deployments and builds in the critical next 10 turns.

How many ships does he have? How many caravels, how many frigates? Where are they, not specific locations obviously, but the general location of his main fleet and its vector.

If you keep me appraised of his ship movements and builds, do not advise him of the same for me, and keep your caravels away so he does not have vision of my fleet size or deployments, this can be the new basis of a partnership going forward. I will fight, you can sit back, build, and supply me information.
Thanks but don't really need coal, I guess for Ironclads. Anything else need coal besides Ironclads and Battleships?

I can tell you have Niter under a farm northwest of Callisto. Another source is in the tundra on the west side of your island before the mountain that is blocking you. Didn't check to see if you have a district on top of one, the symbol doesn't show up if it is. I nearly freaked out when I didn't see any on my island. Come to find out, both have districts on top of them.

I did build a few harbors but they dont stack with Hansas, they are way too expensive for coastal town that usually have crap production.

Woden i agree on walls but there isnt really much one can do to quickly build better walls. On land that all makes sense due to terrain etc. On open water defense is a joke

@oledavy

Archduke has 2 frigates and 1 caravel just north of my Island, the rest is not visible to me. He might well amass his fleet to take me out, starting in 9 turns. I am trying to gather what I have to make his life difficult and deny him taking the last city as long as possible. Is there any naval support I can rely on or will he be able to simply take my cities again. You wouldn't want him to take the entire Island as it would put him into a position hard to beat.

Also, I have extra sugar, what could you trade for it?

@Woden, where is Archduke's current fleet?

England's fleet is sitting between Germany and England (south of The Show must Go On, North of Zuckerstadt) and consists of 7 Frigates, 2 Caravels, and 2 Admirals. He has an additional 2 Caravels and a Frigate. The 2 Caravels are by Norway's east coast and the Frigate is north of "I want to break free" (old Stockholm).

Edit: Pretty much where they where last turn but consolidated a little. Does look look like he is either going to attack Germany again or strategically holding there to respond in the direction of an attack.

@ Woden

Oledavy is as dangerous as me in winning this game, soon adding a spanish core to his empire coupled with the Arsenal.

I understand your intent on helping the underdog, but Oledavy is anything but this.

If you do insist on helping them please do it more easily and just provide screenshots of my fleet, more honest at least.

And I doubt I will ally you again if you keep this up.

@TheArchduke,
You can't blame me for trying to keep the balance of power in check. You are the big dog right now but you both are scaring and I can't have either one getting to far ahead yet.

To equalize it a little, you have 4 Niter available (that I can see) but only 1 is reachable by any of your current cities.

That's an empty threat and we all know it.

You benefit WAY more from Woden allying with you than the other way around.
