[SPOILERS] Cornflakes vs. TheArchduke 2nd Round

So here we go again, I doubt Cornflakes will be caught again with his pants down in builder mode.
Rome means that cities will be chosen for defensive position and I need to keep his hands of a GG.

Anyway, a rather nice capital 1 NW, keeping the forest and settling on a plains hill behind a river. I like it a lot. shades

Torres de Paine is in the NE but I would need to move my settler 1 NW to catch a tile in the third ring and if I move much closer I would perhaps loose my fresh water.
I settle on my planned spot and start a scout. Probably a builder and a settler after that, settling to torres de paine is a priority for my 2nd city.

More exploring, nothing remarkable so far.

Once again, I am not having too much luck finding my CS quickly. smoke
But I am happy with my decision not to move to the Natural Wonder with my capital by now.

Without a good food tile to work and production rather high I opt for the rather risky 2nd scout, I actually like them as fogbusters and I want to explore west as well east as quickly as possible to get a lay of the land.

After 3 turns I can finally get some food in and after finishing the scout I will go for a settler probably, a builder is suboptimal because only the cows are an improvable tile I actually want work. Much better to use the bananas and the forested hill tile to push out a settler and improve the 2nd city asap.

Settling 1 NW would have made the builder more sensible as I would have wheat in the second ring, but given that I am Germany I want to pack cities more closely, so that pushed me to settle in place and maybe be able to squeeze a city on the river to the west.

The 2nd scout turns out to be a misplay, Rome is close, how close?

We make contact with him whilst his initial warrior is working on a barb camp 5 tiles! from my capital.

The good news we make first contact with Carthage, resulting in +2 production on mil units. The quest is also a doozy, Mil Tradition Inspiration.

This means Cornflakes is very likely to the SE of my position which makes an aggressive settle east much more important then Tores del Paine.

This will probably be another crazy, ancient slugfest, I like it.

Burning through the turns today, it seems.

Barb horseman always there to ensure fun times. My scout takes off over the river, maybe Cornflakes losses his warrior. My warrior in turn comes back, I will need him to ensure settling rights before too long.

Plains hill behind a river which defend against the Southeast. This is a definite must settle.

Cornflakes seems intent on taking the barb camp. In 5 turns I will have 2 warriors in the region to force the issue. A settler will follow the warrior to claim the area.

Taking Tortoise sure is a peculiar selection, thanks to the suicide barbs he got promoted and he will get the camp. I should try to snipe that warrior with my 2 if I somehow again.

I also suspect that Cornflakes built a builder, his milpower is very low, maybe I can pillage some stuff with my scout, we will see.

Wow, this is close, perhaps we need to player a bigger map for a duel.

Ridiculous fast turnaround times atm.
