had to use the non-steam version of civ, but i can join it at least.

superdeath, I don't remember if you had commented previously, but make sure your natneg is set up correctly if you have not yet done so.
On the Steam version you need to opt into the “Beta”. I don’t remember exactly what it’s called or where to do it though
