This is just an attempt to set up sandboxes correctly during the pregame phase so we don't waste time on a 72 hour first turn while teams log in, find correct settings, rebuild a better sandbox, sim, optimize, strategize, agonize, antagonize, synergize, and then say screw it and SIP/worker first as it was foretold by the Ancients.

I'd also like an answer to this. I put a poll up with two days time for lurker voting in my thread, but I don't want to delay the pick phase.
Whatever you want it to be? We've still got a fair bit of work to do on the parts of the map that aren't your BFCs, and none of us have unbroken stretches of time to actually do that work. Maybe 3 weeks left until the map is ready to go, if everything goes smoothly (and when has a map ever been ready ahead of schedule)? So call it a week per pick phase and that is likely to line up.
That does mean we can't give you extracted-start sims to work with. At least not yet.

I think it ended up 136 x 82. If not exactly that, it's somewhere close.
Can y'all clarify one point in the picking rules: if we decide to reroll our civ, but have trouble picking between our two leader choices, can we keep both of our leaders for the round (temporarily, of course) to see if one of them have better synergy with our new civ?

I'm pretty sure it's choose or re-roll, although I can't point you to the post where that got said.

Hey Joey -- here you go, from Page 37:
(January 18th, 2018, 21:00)RefSteel Wrote: 1a) Everyone gets two leaders and one civ to start with, posted in spoiler threads (I think there are still three players who haven't created one; do we PM their picks to them?) You'll also see a screenshot of your BFC before you have to pick.
1b) You can decide to keep the civ or throw it back and roll a new one. 1c) You can choose your leader from the options posted or reject both. You can't "hold" one or both leaders to await whatever civ and/or alternate leader you get; you're picking the leader you want to play in the game, or rolling the dice on getting something better.
2a) Once everyone has made their decision for the round, a lurker posts everyone's choices in this thread, and the leaders and civs that were rejected are mixed in with the choices that didn't end up assigned to anyone in the previous round. They're randomized again, and everyone who discarded a civ and/or leaders gets replacements for them. Nobody will get a leader or civ that they rejected on a previous round.
2b) You can again keep or reject your civ, as above.
2c) You can again lock in your leader or reject both.
3a) We post the results of the round 2 picks, reroll all the leftovers again, and roll leaders and/or civs for anyone who hasn't chosen one yet. At this point, you're stuck with whatever civ you get.
3b) If you haven't picked a leader yet, pick one of the two options. The other is consigned to the dustbin of PB38 history.
Yikes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Um ... I'm not a good choice for game admin. I'm unlikely to be able to check the forums this consistently as the game progresses, and I hate making unilateral decisions; I'm mostly just good at assembling existing information (and then only if I spend some time at it). I'm doing what I can with the mapmaking and start-posting and so on just because I'm excited about the game and hoping to help it get started semi-reasonably soon.
Speaking of assembling existing information: It's possible the map dimensions could change (the mapmaking tools available make this relatively simple without disrupting other stuff) but the latest WBSave shows 140 (East-West) by 88 (North-South).
And speaking of the same, thanks, Donovan Zoi! Since a small change was made after that process was described (just before the picks and starts were posted) and a clarification was added, here's a hopefully-up-to-date version as well:
1a) Everyone gets two leaders and one civ to start with, posted in spoiler threads (I think there are still three players who haven't created one; do we PM their picks to them?) You'll also see a screenshot of your BFC before you have to pick.
1b) You can decide to keep the civ or throw it back and roll a new one. Clarification: If you choose to keep your civ, the choice is locked in; you can't change your mind and reroll it in the next round.
1c) You can choose your leader from the options posted or reject both. You can't "hold" one or both leaders to await whatever civ and/or alternate leader you get; you're picking the leader you want to play in the game, or rolling the dice on getting something better.
2a) Once everyone has made their decision for the round, a lurker posts everyone's choices in this thread, andthe choices are kept secret by the lurkers until the whole picking process has ended; the leaders and civs that were rejected are mixed in with the choices that didn't end up assigned to anyone in the previous round. They're randomized again, and everyone who discarded a civ and/or leaders gets replacements for them. Nobody will get a leader or civ that they rejected on a previous round.
2b) You can again keep or reject your civ, as above.
2c) You can again lock in your leader or reject both.

(Thanks for the ... uh ... flattering speculation on my username, Boldy. It's actually just a bit of shorthand relating to a couple of my real-life tabletop gaming groups. The "Steel" is from the party name chosen by the original player characters in the longest-running campaign for which I GM - or for which, in the parlance of another gaming group, I "ref.")
For clarification: Does the rules on p.37 mean that leaders rejected by people who chose the other leader in their pair of leaders are available in the second round?
Yes. The only civs and leaders that will be excluded from the pool of random choices for the second round will be the ones that are actually selected and "locked in" by a player in the first round.
