You managed to resist added football-related taunts as well... Any plans to get the test game updated to the new RtR version so we can all double-check again?
Hey, my post was motivational, not taunting. If I had used this one, however...
...I would have been implying that I did not like KHAAAANNN (Khaaaaan) but I did not. Dtay's going to be just fine. In related news, this is Bill Belichick today. (Tom Brady is on the table.) Be well, dtay.
I wondered what the hell was going on in this thread but my wife has just spent five minutes explaining to me what happened in the superbowl.
I'm British. She's British. She has no interest in sport. But, somehow, this was big enough news that she knew details. Like, stats and stuff. So, my bad.

Regarding making a sim. Does one need to have the exact right map dimensions to ensure that the sim accurately reflects tech costs and other variables effected by map size? And if so, how does one go about making a map of a specific dimension?
Tech costs are set by map size (large, huge, etc) so those are fixed regardless of precise X,Y dimensions. Nailing down precise map dimensions helps to calculate as well as you reasonably can for the early game such details as trade route income if you can get obsessive about tracking all the necessary information.
For pregame purposes, you can roll a map using Seven's mirrorland mapscript. It allows you to select X,Y dimensions. Go for the closest possible match there to what has been specified in this thread (I don't have it off hand but Ref, I think, posted) and you'll be pretty good. I've set up with exact dimension matches before but may have used Joey's tool. I forget now how to do that though. Joey, if you're willing, could you punch together a worldbuilder file using your tool using the appropriate map dimensions? I seem to recall editing the worldbuilder file in notepad before but don't know the exact requirements to do that anymore. I wish I could be more helpful, Cairo. There's a part of the code that calculates, what is the longest distance between any two points, and then calculations that scale with distance use that as a denominator. The two I can think of are city distance maintenance and religion spread percentage. Probably trade route values and GM cash bombs factor this in too. This is also why changing from Cylindrical to Torroidal affects some costs. |
