Big turn today and since I received the turn early, thanks to early play by Emperor K and Sulla, I took a little time and looked around. Start off with ..
I know I took a few screenies of the city after it was settled but they didn't take. What the hell is going on here? I does always seem to be the ones in the beginning. maybe I am not waiting for the shot to take, IDK? I guess I am going to have to check my folder before I end my turn to make sure I get everything. Anyways, I change the name to Horus, lock the dyes tile, buy the tile for the campus, and start an archer to be chopped in 6 turns.
Up at Kandy...
The tile picker did pick the stone, so I saved a little money there (hence why I could buy the campus tile at Horus). I buy the campus tile here and switch production to the galley sitting at 63/65. Harvest the stone for 63 (boosted to 126), and overflow into a miscounted campus (80). This will leave me with 43 overflow next turn. I am debating overflowing it into a library or builder. I can build an archer and chop the forest into the library with the builder and I need to get some tiles improved here for better production but the library would be nice for extra science. I guess I will have to sleep on it tonight.
Finishing the galley completes Valletta's quest...
+2 in my 3 cities with encampments! Shaves off a turn of the settler at Isis and both builders (both due next turn). Well, not quite. The builder at Thoth will finish regardless of order but if the builder at Amon is completed after the builder at Thoth, it will take another turn due to the increase cost, but then I will get a lot of overflow into the settler. Anybody know order of builds when multiple units are completed on the same turn (when unit numbers increase costs)? Anyways, next turn I will know if Russia has envoys in the bank and retakes the Suzerainship. If he does, I can grab it after Military Training in 7 turns. CMF, you are finishing G&R, right?
In the north...
I think I found the camp the scout that spotted my capital a ways back. Pretty far off and probably why I didn't see any units show up. I was standing on the hill (found the camp last turn) and have my archer move back and shot at the warrior.
Looking at the GP screen...
I will earn my General next turn! Then it will be a race for the medieval general. Whatever we do, we can't let Cornflakes get the next general. I might need to run a few projects and hope everybody is racing to Apprenticeship and make the next general a Renaissance Era (240 gpts). Should be do-able, especially if I can get Valletta on board.
Like at said at the beginning, I spent a little time looking around and noticed something interesting, if it trues out true. I was looking at the areas your scouting units have defogged over by Khmer/Kongo and Rome/China. It looks to me that we have the more productive continent. Now, I don't know if this is true because we can't see the majority of the other continents but if you look at screenshots...
Start with our continents in normal view...
And strategic view...
From England's capital east to Russia, it is full of hills, really rough terrain and lots of production. Now look at Khmer/Kongo in strategic view (you can see hills better in strategic view)...
and the little you can see of Rome...
Lots of flat land with scatter hills.
Looks like we have the more productive continent and given enough time to develop, we can become the production powerhouses. Now, we can only see what we can see and no knowing what is under the fog but is just a curiosity that I noticed as I was looking around. No knowing what Russia/Germany look like as we really have not defogged much of their lands. Anyways, more exciting turns are coming soon.
I forgot to add something about score. Here are the standings..
Notice that CMF is catching up to Rome! Only 4 points behind. Now CMF's score is a little bloated form the double district points for RND but still. The capture of Kabul really helped out.
Here is our details...
And Rome/China...
The only real difference is the number of civics and CMF has the highest culture rate right now. There is a little bloat from RND but once you are finished with a round of those, your other districts should be discounted for the first few if built right. Good job CMF. I think the major difference in score can be accounted for in Religion and Wonders. We are making up ground. Can't wait to see where we stand at T100.
Emperor and I both have somewhat inflated scores due to our unique districts. Singaboy's score, too, is inflated from the wonders, which are a bit overvalued (I mean, the Hanging Gardens is nice, but 5 points for it? C'mon).
A lower-tempo turn for me, after the frantic chopping and building of the last 5 turns or so. No new cities captured, no new districts built - next one is due in 2 turns, at Aboukir (the chop won't complete it, though, so a bit longer), and then T76 out of Navarino. Defensive Tactics will take about 8 turns to research, since I'm abandoning the "wait til Rome/China gets annoyed enough and declares war idea", startin T74 when I finish Games & Rec, so I can start to chop out the Mausoleum at turn 82 - much faster than my original timeline!
Anyway, why did I abandon the "wait til Rome/China declares war" on me idea for the inspiration? Well, partially is that it's just too dependent upon other players. Singaboy and Sullla might NEVER get around to whacking my scout - in fact, it's been so long that I feel like they're just ignoring me at this point. You can't even tell the roads have been pillaged. Furthermore, Woden mentioned a quick point to me before I played my turn - Sullla probably hasn't met Nan Madol yet. As far as we can tell, Rome hasn't scouted off its starting continent yet. Neither of my wandering warriors has spotted any Roman units, nor have any of Nan Madol's units. Declaring war, though, will not only immediately reveal to Sullla the keystone of my entire culture right now, but will also mean he's already at war with them - and Nan Madol is not so far a march from Rome...
30 turns from now, I think I can hold Nan Madol against a Roman army. Ten turns from now? Ehhh....It's dicey. And I know Sullla will do his level best to raze that city - it'd knock out half my culture in one fell swoop. Merely capturing it would be insane, since I'd dedicate all my armies and navies to the task of retaking it, so sadly my suzerainity has possibly doomed Nan Madol in the long term if I can't hold it.
Accordingly, with this new calculus, 88 culture isn't worth risking my source of power - I make that amount in 3 turns, thanks to the city. So, I send Singaboy a DOF (he plays before Sullla):
Will they accept? I hope so! If not, well, at least I get the culture and I can figure out how to defend NM later. If they do accept, there'll be no war until t103 at the earliest, and I can have an army and navy in place to be ready then.
For good measure, I send Rome a DOF, too:
An added benefit - we'll have basically 15 turns free rein to go nuts on Khmer/Kongo. I miscounted my warriors, I'll have 5 swordsmen and 5 archers available. I have 1 tile purchase left to make, then I'm saving for swordsmen upgrades (how far away is Mercenaries? Might be worth grabbing if easily accessible. Oh, it's a lot of culture away...probably not reachable in time).
With that done, the rest of the turn is quiet. I move my scout off road pillaging duty:
Lisbon has a lot of units. Woden, once I reach Frigates and Caravels, I think I'm going to raze that city - it's probably part of the reason Sullla's economy is so strong (Singaboy is powered by Church Property, nothing to be done about that). He's building tons of campuses and commercial hubs - he has no access to a science state (we might save Geneva if we can hold it), so razing Lisbon would deprive him of any useful CS at all.
Speaking of CS, I was going to send my next trader to Muscat for the envoy bonus, but I notice this instead:
Muscat would give +2 in the capital, so it's actually worth 7 gold, but Geneva STILL has a slight yield edge. 2 science is nice, a 10% boost - nearly as good as suzeraining them. Woden, I think I'm going to send most of my routes here for the foreseeable future - with 6 routes soon to be available, that's 12!! science. I get that together and I'll keep up with the campus teams! Between you and me, we'll have monster research rates.
Finally, Temeraire in the western sea uncovers more coast north of Valetta. Nothing interesting, just dreary tundra:
Finally finally, before I forget, Woden, we've officially reached the halfway point of our DOF with Kongo/Khmer. As this current round of builds finish, we need to swap over to military builds, I think, and get our army in shape. I'm going for Iron Working after Shipbuilding, and then Machinery if it's available.

Yep, I am aware. I am going to go for Currency->Apprenticeship->Engineering->Machinery and try to get at least Feudalism and hopefully Mercenaries by the time Machinery is done. I already started moving my archers over to the western front. I will need to figure out when to start horseman, probably after the current settlers.
One other thing I forgot to mention, that you may have already pick up on, the UI has become even more buggy after the last patch than it was before. As I was looking over things today, I noticed that the city science and culture were not showing correct numbers (e.g. Horus was showing 0.2 for 1 pop), production was not showing correctly (with Valletta's bonus), and other weird numbers. I think the actual numbers are correct, but I did take a bunch of screenshots double check if it is correct. Can't do anything about it if they are wrong but would be good to know if anything has actually changed. Just an FYI.
CMF,
Trade routes to Geneva would work but maybe get the next one to make a road along the southern coast, from Sal to Isis (or Thoth). That way we can have a northern road and southern road for unit movement. Like the idea of razing Lisbon and think we should keep Geneva around. A couple more envoys and I will get a nice boost to my campuses.

Next route I finish I'll send along the south coast to Muscat for the envoy bonus and to lay a road (unless it's a sea route, which it probably is).
Once I start plopping down Commercial Hubs too, I'll have double the trade routes of everyone else. if I can send them all to Geneva, that's a ton of science and gold, only using 1 or 2 for road building and getting new cities up. It should keep my science competitive until Rationalism policies start to kick in, even with few Campuses.
Back in action after missing a turn yesterday. Start off with...
Because CMF finished it and..
With my 2nd campus finishing. Because I only have 2 districts available and five districts completed (Holy Site at Nu-Kandy is excluded because I don't have Astrology), my 3rd campus is still discounted...
I place it at Horus and switch back to the archer to be chopped when I switch back to Agoge. I check Valletta...
Emperor K has not put anymore envoys into the city state. Either he has no available or is wanting to put them into somewhere else. Good for me since I will earn one next turn and can go on a shopping spree. Let's keep our fingers crossed that he doesn't put one in next turn before I can put one in there.
Next, I get...
Next General is a Medieval one and cost 120 gp. Cornflakes has 20 more points than me and makes 2 gpp/turn and I make 3 but will make 4 after next turn. Should be a lock even if he runs a project or 2, since I have 3 encampments to run projects.
Up north...
Barb warrior is pressing my archer, I retreat and attack. He shoudl be dead next turn.
Here is an overview of my empire...
Both builders did finish this turn, so Amon built theirs first. Amon's builder moves to pasture the sheep and starts a settler. Next turn, I will place a discounted Commercial Hub. Thoth's builder moves to improve the wines and then the ivory. Should be able ot get most of my cities ecstatic for +10% yields. Thoth also starts another builder. Lots on land needs chopping or improving. Everything is starting to come together nicely. Hopefully if nobody holds the save to long, we may get another turn today.
Busy, productive turn, plus second turn of the day! Start off with...
Time to place a discounted district..
86 , not bad. Shows 6 turns to complete, a little less if I put down a pyramid. Now that that is done, let's take a look at Valletta...
I place new envoy into them and become suzerain. Time to go shopping! Start off with...
Walls are half cost (80/80). Faith is usually a 2 to 1, but Valletta gives a discount on walls. Now, if I was anybody other than Nubia, I would build walls with Limes running and chop for +100% , but I can already get the +100% on ranged units running Agoge, so don't need limes for chops. Now if I were to go into Monarchy, I will build walls using limes to get +150% chops, but that is a little ways off and need walls in my front cities before then. I also buy a monument in Thoth for 120 (60).
The walls give me...
Next, to Horus. I buy a watermill...
160 (80). This finishes...
Which then finishes...
Since I finish a civic, time for a policy swap...
Out goes Maritime Industries, in comes Agoge. More chopping to do before I build a few horsemen.
Let's take a look at science research...
I select Apprenticeship for the extra production on mines. I don't want to finish Machinery until I get close to Feudalism, so I think Apprenticeship first is better. Regardless, my next techs will be Apprenticeship, Engineering, and Machinery. I might fit Astrology in there because I will get my Prophet in 16 turns and not sure if you can found a religion without it. It is sitting at 1 turn now (and so is Drama). Then I will probably go for Stirrups to get Knights on the field.
Now for my last purchase...
A barracks at Isis. I could have gone with another monument but want to put the press on the next General. Plus extra production and housing at Isis is pretty good and as long as I retain the suzerainship of Valletta, I can buy some more in a few turns after a little chopping around my empire.
So for review, I finished 2 techs and 1 civic this turn. Became the suzerain of Valletta and bought walls and a monument at Thoth, a watermill at Horus, and a barracks at Isis, completing 310 worth of infrastructure. Good times had by all.
