The scout survived! Took one hit. Will probably stop to heal next turn. Also shown in that screen is Buddhism being founded. More on that in a minute.
Rival average soldiers increased by 250. So, the total soldier growth is 250*24=6000. 5 people got score increases (Gavagai, B4ndit, Adrien, Dark Savant, and Commodore). One of those got Meditation. So perhaps 3 of those got Hunting/Mining and 1 got Agriculture? I don't think I'll take the time to figure it out. (Or rather, try to figure it out.) Who founded Buddhism? Of the people who got score increases, only Dark Savant had Mysticism, so I'm gonna go out on a limb and say he founded a religion. If so, I'm not sure what he's building/teching. He started with Fishing/Mysticism. So maybe he had a seafood start; it'd explain how he was able to grow. Wait a minute. WHAT?! Expansive gives a bonus to workboats?! Since when? 2.0.8.3? Wow. Boy did I miss that. Joao on a water start is incredible. Huh. So, he didn't need to go worker tech first because he wasn't going to have a worker for a while, so he was able to grab Buddhism. Nice play.
The scout moved and found
A ton of food. The scout will move to the grassland forest hill south west and then heal up. I'm tempted to go to the desert hill 1SE 1E, because if I start settling cities down there, I don't want to invalidate any good sites out in the fog. A city on the hill the scout is on would be not terrible, except for the fact that it would have two deserts and no first ring food resources of its own. But if I planted that and on that hill by the 3 tile lake to my Northeast, the land in between would tricky to dotmap.
You know what's interesting? Rival worst soldiers is still 0. As far as I know, 3 civs started with zero solider points from tech: Plako (Agri, Myst); Rusten (Agri, Myst); superdeath (Agri, Fishing). Superdeath got a tech turn 8, which I had noted down as Mining, but after Aretas, I realize that this could be archery (not that Aretas necessarily got it. Maybe it was a super fast other tech? All this demos reading is building a house of cards while blindfolded.) Plako got a tech on turn 9 which I penciled in as hunting or mining. So, superdeath and plako gained soldiers (unless they really needed fishing...). All this means that Rusten has been at 0 soldier points and also hasn't gained a tech. Wanna bet next turn he founds Hinduism? (Let's not actually bet. I'm wrong pretty much constantly.)

Busy week. Luckily the past couple turns can be summed up in one picture.
That is, um, not very inviting. Are desert hills even worth settling for, or are they just bumpier deserts?
Also pictured, no one founding Hinduism. In my defense, on this map size, the distance between Meditation and Polytheism is greater than I'm used to. I'm still decently confident Rusten goes for it.

First the good news.
Rusten founded Hinduism. Presumably he won't have time to do that and send a half a dozen chariots my way. Wonder what Donovan Zoi is researching. I think he started with Mysticism/Mining, so it looks like he's going to Bronze Working? Without a food tech? And while building a worker, since his cap hasn't grown? I'm missing something somewhere.
The bad news.
I said I was going to heal up. I knew I was supposed to heal up. I would've lost nothing by healing up. But now I'm at 87/100 hp against an angry lion. Stupid stupid error. I even saw the lion a few turns ago! Well, we found fat happy grassland pigs at least.
Since the week had been so busy, I didn't get a chance to sim out a different start than the one I planned forever ago. Perhaps it would've been better to build a warrior after the worker and revolt to slavery. The plan as it stands is to get two workers out so we can start chopping out Imp settlers faster. The real danger is that we won't have enough for the workers to do besides chop workers we don't need or settlers we can't protect. Expect to see a lot of mines. I'm very happy we found a pig instead of, say, corn.

THE SCOUT LIVES!
I never had any doubts...
Can anyone tell me why I can't promote? You can see in the above screen the requisite XP.
You can see from the scores that Aretas gained both another tech and another pop point, for a capitol at size 3. He grew from size 1 to 2 on turn 8. (As in, turn 7 rolled, and he gain the pop.) So I think he worked a 3 food tile for the whole time. This would mean he had a 2 food surplus, so he'd need another 22 food to grow. He grew this turn (14). So, he needed a 4 food surplus. That three food tile and a plains forest? I wonder what he's been building.
I've kinda given up C&D from the demos screen for now. Given that people may be building warriors, it's getting a little tricky. If I meet an opponent, I may wade through the demos again. There's been a total increase of 8k soldier points over the turn. If Aretas got Agriculture, then Donovan Zoi got Bronze Working. (Or he missed Polytheism by a turn, which would be a bummer.) So, if he got BW, he has 10k soldier points (Mining is 2k). He hasn't grown so I don't think he has completed a worker. Let's say he's at 10k soldier points.
I'm getting disorganized and rambling as I try to piece all this together. I've been flipping through my demos screenshots.
Until Turn 5, top power was 6k, average was 2500.
Turn 5, top was 8k, average was 2833. Aretas gained archery (6k). 2k unaccounted for. Damn if I know where it is.
Turn 8, top 9k. Average 3541. Aretas gained a pop point. The remaining 16k was from miscellaneous techs. Hunting and Mining most likely.
Turn 9, top 9k, average 3833. 7k growth, 1k of which is Dark Savant's population.
Turn 10, top 9k, average 4083. That 6k global increase I assume, again, is all tech.
Turn 14, top 13k, average 4416. 8k in growth, all of which let's call Bronze Working by Donovan.
So who the heck has 13k in soldier points? Can't be Donovan. He's got Mining for 2k, BW for 8k. The remaining 3k can't come from pop, and I can't believe it came from three warriors, because we've had (barring pop points) even numbers of growth in soldier points. This stuff gets frustrating. Blindfolded card house building. Might give it a rest.

XP are not available to promote a unit (unless it already has another promotion pending) until the turn after they are earned. In SP, this only applies when you attack, because the AIs and barbs all move at the end of your turn. In Pitboss however, the barbs (and AIs if any) move at the beginning of the turn, which is why you don't get to use the XP right away. You should be able to claim the promotion next turn.

Interesting. Thanks.
Does that mean that if human player A attacks human player B, player B won't have a chance to promote for his second-half-of-timer counterattack? Sucks to be Player B, I guess.
A pity the turn didn't roll, but I appreciate Gavagai's concern. I suspect, however, superdeath hit the retire button accidentally, since it's right under the Exit one.

Yes, unless the units in question had promotions available already, going into the turn. (In which case it can use all its xp, old and new - a glitch in the way it's programmed.)
Quote:Sucks to be Player B, I guess.
Maybe, but Player B can also whip and change build orders and tile assignments on the basis of Player A's actions, and have builds (e.g. of whipped defenders) complete before Player A's next move.

You seem to be counting warriors as 1k increases in soldier points. This was the case in the original Civ4, but they account for 2k in BtS.
Here's an article that lists all possible increases in soldier count. I don't think the RtR mod changes any of this, but I might be wrong about that; should be in the changelog if so.

Got back and replayed the turn. Not totally sure what was happening because I only check RB sporadically at work.
When I logged in, Rusten and I weren't the only ones to have not ended turn. Can pitboss games be reloaded from the middle of a turn? If so, neat! (I guess it makes a save state when people log out?) I'm super unclear about all the non-game related mechanics of pitboss. (And even some of the game stuff. See promos above.)
Turn report to come later today. I've posted my password, but I'll edit the first post to make it obvious.
OH FUCK ME. I forgot something. I met another player and had moved around my EP to keep them all on Rusten, but this time I forgot. Oh well. Play on. It'll be like one more turn before graphs or something. (<--The emote of this thread.)
