My understanding is that everything you see after retiring in SP is a function of the game ending, not of retiring itself, and of course the game doesn't end when one player retires in a multiplayer game like this. I can't test pitboss, but I tried a 3-player Hotseat game and retiring one of the players just made it the next player's turn with the retired player's civ run by an AI - no retirement screen of any kind showed up. I imagine retiring in Pitboss just logs you out. (And lets an AI run your civ until you reclaim it.)

Yeah, that makes sense.

yeah, the issue was i had gotten done with my turn and was going thru the motions to exit, but instead i had clicked retire instead of exit to main menu, didnt notice any change in the prompt, and only noticed that i had retired when i went to check civstats right after. nothing was revealed to me, other than how stupid it must look.

In this game that's going to help us because he's going to go to the negotiating table with twitchy eyes and slightly too wide a grin and terrify the neighbors into favorable border agreements, one-sided tech deals and staggered NAPs."

Oh yeah, those buttons being right by each other was not one of the UI design highlights for civ 4. I've almost made that same mistake a couple of times

I'm not able to connect to the game right now. I select my civ, enter the password, and just before the game would normally display, I'm getting the generic Microsoft C++ runtime error panel. "This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way". I don't think anything has changed on my side, I tried the obvious, powering off + on.
Any suggestions, or can anyone else play their turn right now?

I tried to log in to check, but I was unable to establish connection with you.

Weird, Civ wasn't even running. I just restarted my computer, CivStats now shows me logged off.

Something is definitely wrong. I couldn't get in either. Some runtime error upon opening the game -- probably the same as you.

Ok thanks for checking! I guess it's not worth spending a lot of time troubleshooting on my side then.
