My First Civ IV game...

I just got Civ IV today and it is totally awesome. In my first game I'm playing as Saladi on Noble and at around 400 AD I am in 3rd place out of 7 civs (But the 2 civs above me, Cyrus and Catherine, are Pleased with me, so it's all good.) and I've found 6 of the 7 civs so far (I assume the mysterious 7th civ is on another continent.). I've had some health and anger problems in my capitol, but I was able to clean that up with some trading with Cyrus. I went to war with Elizabeth (Accidentally, mind you. But hey, she's the weakest civ I know, and I didn't like her anyway. Plus she is the only one who isn't Jewish which I founded.) So far I razed one of her junk cities that she had on the front lines (I wasn't even allowed to keep it. At least the Japanese got to keep that Barb city they captured just before I did.) So far I'm having barrels of fun.
No screenshots now, but I'll get some.

I've already scheduled CivAnonymous meetings lol

More on my story...
I took another English city and kept it, which was a bad idea in the long run. Currently, that city (Hastings) is at a total standstill with culture, so I really need to do something about that. That other Engligh city I took previously has small borders, but it's a good city for my war plans. I got two Great Prophets and used them both for tech since I felt that I was behind.
Remember what I said about that Barb city that the Japanese (Tokugawa) took? Yeah, that city's borders were expanding a lot, and they were squishing War Base (The Engish city I first took.) so it was stuck in between to Tokugawa cities and a Cyrus city. I declared on Tokugawa (Maybe not the best idea, but I was still mad about him "stealing" that barb city from me in the first place.) and moved in my trusty stack of 2 cats and assorted infantary units. I took that city and razed it since I couldn't afford to pay upkeep for amother city. I'll move a settler to it eventually.
Meanwhile, Catherine decided to convert her state religion from Judiasm (YAY!) to Christianity (BOO! Even though I'm a Christian.)
That REALLY hurts me. Now she's just Cautious with me. I don't plan on ever declaring on her (Although I've been bouncing around the scoreboard, so mostly I have a better score than her.) so she might just be an annoyance if I don't throw some missionaries her way.
I wait for Gawa to allow me to talk to him and we goth agree peace is the way to go. Now I plan on rebuilding my military and getting gunpowder before declaring on the heathen Elizabeth again and wiping her out for good. It has also come to my attention that there are still 2 more civs to be found. So, I will try and research more naval techs so I can go visit them (And they no doubt both have their own continent). Back at home, WLTMD is celebrated in my capital. I'm having some unhealthiness problems in some small cities. I'm having them build aqueducts.
Cyrus has blocked me off from founding any more cities, and I don't want to pay huge maintainance costs for founding a city way on the other side of his civ.
As far as winning goes, there are only two ways I can really win given the situation: Time and Diplomacy (SpaceRace is disabled.) If I can get Catherine to convert back to me and if I can get the two unknown civs to like me enough, I might be able to win the election. Now, as far as Time goes... Cyrus has been ahead of me in score for some time now. He's not too far ahead, but I'm going to have to make good use of golden ages or something to get ahead. I don't want to have someone else declare on him because I like him too much. I'm in quite a dilemma...
Wiether I win or lose, I can see the reasons why pretty easily, so I expect my second game will be a big improvement. Maybe I'll participate in Adventure 1 or Epic 2 when it somes.
Screenies coming tomorrow... if I have time between playing and reading reports. Tomorrow is Civ Day, baby!
BTW, I'm in around 1,000 AD

Some slow turns and some exciting turns were ahead for me after 1,000 AD. The Great Stolen City ™ had been razed and I was trying to get a settler over there to claim the land as I said earlier. But, Elizabeth forgot that I captured 2 of her cities and burned a Jap city to the ground, and put a settler right frickin' next to the Stolen City rubble!!!!!
I gave Catherine Hastings so that she would have a relationship boost with me. Eventually she went back to pleased. Meanwhile I readied a stack of a war elephant, three upgraded cats, and some assorted ground units. I declare yet again on Elizabeth. Long story short, I capture the city and take it for my own after a decent fight from the English. During the battle Catherine declared on Elizabeth too, and with Hastings right in the middle of the English empire, I was sure she would do a little damage. Eventually peace is restored and I discover gunpowder, so musketeers are a-comin for Elizabeth soon. I think Catherine is still at war...
My caravel I built goes out into the unknown ocean and finds Ceasar and Frederick wwho I believe are on the same continent. Frederick is Islam so he is Annoyed right now, but Ceasar doesn't even have a religion so he could be a good friend. They are both behind me in score. (BTW< Catherine got ahead of me in score when I gave Hastings to her.)
Elizabeth has 3 cities left including her capitol, so she is goin down once I get my musketeers out.
I send missionaries over to Catherine's land and convert about 3 cities.
I think that's all for now. I'll post screens after reading some reports.

Wow, Najran. That is one jungle-looking city there!

I bet the soldiers stationed at that fort could swear meaner than three old sea dogs put together! lol

I get gunpowder and start pumping musketeers. I get a stack of about 5 muskets, 4 cats, and 4 more assorted ground units and declare on Liz, assaulting the well-defended city of Canturbury with my stack. We both take some big losses, but I use bombardment, suicide cats, and some lucky rolls with my musketeers to take the city for myself and then gift it to Cyrus. I then go back to peace.
Some quiet turns pass and during that, I drop down to 5th place in score with Ceasar, Catherine, Cyrus, and Frederick in front of me. I realize that I don't have much time left, and the only way I'll win is by constructing the U.N and voting for a diplomatic victory. I research my way up to Mass Media and start my capitol on building the U.N.
What's that? U.N due in 100 turns? That's.... that's not nearly fast enough! I make a quick civic swap and run 0 science for a while then spend 5,010 gold to rush the U.N. I complete it the same turn the 100 turn countdown begins. At this time, most people have planes and modern stuff while, in my UN rush, I still have some dated defenders and attackers, so no more wars for me. The SwitchOnSwitchOff English War ™ is over... or so I thought.
I easily get voted UN Leader and vote for a diplo victory. I don't have quite enough votes to make it. I'll try again later. For some reason Cyrus is now cautious, so I gift him more crap than you can imagine, but he still doesn't move from cautious. Damn. The next diplo vote comes in. The Great Abstanation ™ had begun. Seriously, more than half the planet abstained. Cyrus voted for himself and one other person (Can't remember who) voted for me. I try the diplo victory once more. The Great Absanation ™ comes again. 2 turns later, Gawa comes a-calling.
Uh-oh, he wants me to go to war with him against Liz! And just when I thought I could get Lizzy to vote for me. Well, England isn't doin so good in score, and Gawa is an important voter (If I can get him to vote in the first place!), so I agree. It was really a phoney war to begin with. (In between turns, I am declared the wealthies civ in the world! smoke )
The next diplo victory vote comes in, and TGA (The Great Abstanation) takes place again.
85 turns are left! Will TGA ever stop and Saladin be voted world leader, or will time run out on our friends? Tune in later for the exciting conclusion to my first ever Civ IV game! (/end promo)

I seriously have no idea what will happen next.

Welcome to the conclusion of my first Civ IV game

Gawa asks for my assistance in the English war and I refuse. Eventually the English capitol is captured and they also take their last city, killing off the English. I couldn't go to war any more... I didn't have the resources for tanks so I didn't have a chance of winning any wars. I guess the era of Catapults and musketeers is my best age for war.
Meanwhile, TGA simply would not stop happening. I took 7 votes before my final one, and every single one was TGA'd (TGA is popping up almost as much as Ferenheit 532 in Cubans). With 6 turns left I take my final vote for the diplo victory...

It was TGA'ed   rant rant   cry eek cry

So the last few turns tick down and Frederick is crowned the score victor. I apparently displayed the leadership abilities of Dan Quayle. Well, uh, Dan Quayle isn't that bad.... lol lol

Final Comments:
Even though I lost pretty badly, I still had fun playing this game. The SwitchOnSwitchOff English War was fun, and backstabbing the Japs and taking the Great Stolen City for backstabbing me seemed so wrong, but it felt so awesome! Whoo, I'm goin crazy here! coffee

Oh, uh, Sirian or Sullla, since you worked on the game, is there are particular reason to the votes always getting TGA'ed?

I look forward to playing my next game. I think I'll go down a difficulty level and play a large Pangea map next time (The Cyrus Squishy on Continents is an ugly thing. Don't let it happen to you.) Anyway, I think that's all. See you next time.

If anyone has play tips for me I would love to hear them smile

Now, to get started on reading those Epic reports...

From what I've heard, the Diplomatic victories are a bit off and it's nearly impossible to legitimately win it. You can win it by building enough population to single-handedly vote yourself in, but that's about it.
